Police tires

Hello:
I have a 2005 FLHPI. The first time I needed to replace the tires I went with an exact replacement of the original run flat tires. I like them, but have never driven the bike with anything else. Soon I will have to replace these. Should I stick with the originals or is there something else (better) that I should consider. I never ride 2-up...only solo. Mostly longer cruises, not short jaunts around town.
Thanks for any info...

If you like the PT why change? I have an 07 FLHP. I liked the PT tires. Even rode two up on them. I know, I know...I will be struck dead..but the fact remains is that I am aware of two bubba's in town who easily tip the scales at least as much as me and the OL do combined. Have yet to see a blow out or hear of any problems. However....when my rear tire became a slick, I changed to a 402. NOW....the only thing I noticed....and this might be purely conjecture on my part...when I had the PT rear tire on....I never noticed and "bagger wobble". I had no idea what these folks were talking about. Now that I have a civilian 402 on the rear.....I have an idea of what the wobble is all about. It is not dramatic but it is definitely there. Soooo......the only way I can prove or disprove....go back to PT rear tire at the next go around. I am still running the PT front tire. Wearing like iron. Rear tire changed at 7500 miles and that was probably a little late. You like the PT's stick with 'em. I wish Dunlop would market one that had a higher load rating. Otherwise....the next tire change should have me changing 'em both. Based on all the usual heresay...Dunlop E3's or Avon's.

Brett Donahue ran the police tires on his sportster in the 07 IBA rally. he claims that they are the only tire that will go the distance without having to change the rear 12,600 miles in 11 days. He placed 3rd.

tires

I do like the tires that came on the bike. But will likely change to a car tire for the rear. Have 5000 miles and the PT do run nice. I put
38psi in the front and 44 in the rear.

I think you're asking for problems doing that. Bike tires and cars tires are built totally different. Car tires are not designed to run on the side like a bike tire is. Car tires are a much harder compound than bike tires. I have a friend that put a car tire on the back of his Honda Interstate (stripped down Goldwing). I rode it once. It handled terrible. You had to really lean to get the bike to turn. He's risking the back end coming out from under him in a turn if he doesn't have optimal traction.

I know it's tempting to put a car tire on. But is it worth risking you and your bike?
