Rack removal

I have a 96 EG and over the back fender there is a black plate I am guessing where the tour pack would mount to, I was wondering has anyone removed this? Or is there some way to dress it up it takes away from the look of the bike

The plate can be removed easily but you'll need to find a new location for your airtank.
I mounted mine between the saddlebag and rear fender (there's plenty of room). Some people put it inside the saddlebag and let it rattle around, taking up valuable space. Others have mounted it under the battery (I tried and couldn't do it without removing the rear fender).
I picked up a stock used laydown LP bracket for about $10 and added the detachable hardware and use a solo rack over the rear fender. It protects the fender and if I need to, I can tie a jacket onto it.
