Different Motor Schools

How many of you officers have taken more than one type of motor school? I ask because I was speaking to a deputy this morning on his roadking and he said the course he took would have failed him if he used his brakes at all! He said the CHP course was different than the one his department paid for. Why do some courses teach to you head/eyes/throttle/friction zone/rear brake, and then others won't let you use any brake in slow speed trials. Which is a better course?

I haven't taught in a couple of years, but Harley introduced the no brake usage for the cone weave and offset cone weave. These are the first two exercises and they did that to help with the friction (grey area) zone. After that the use of the rear brake is introduced and then it is used on all exercises.

Northwestern/HD actually doesn't introduce the rear brake until after the students try the intersection pattern. As big bang stated they try to get the students to better manage the friction zone and make quick transitions. I have heard of all types of training programs but I think they all ultimately teach the same skills. The basic goal is proper motor control. I suspect the different courses may have something to do with the type of motor that is being used. Each has it high points and weaknesses.
