Question Rear Fender Mounting Hole

I have a 2006 Police Road King with a police solo seat. I just purchased a luggage rack that attaches to the 2 bolts behind the seat and the hole in the rear fender. The problem I have is getting a nut under the hole in the rear fender I can not get between the fender and tire. Is there a way to do this without removing the fender or tire. I was thinknig maybe a blind nut. Any help would be appreciated

The ole fashioned way. Wrap a piece of wire around the nut until ya get it started then pull off the wire.

I use a zip tie, so I don't scratch anything. All you do is run the zip tie under the fender, up through the hole. snap the nut retaining ring around the nut and then drop the zip tie.

The nut that RMPC312 is referring to is a special nut made for Harley to attach the seat. It is highly recommended that you use this type because of the retainer, then pull it up to the hole and set the retainer pin in, then you can screw the bolt right in. I used a shoelace and a nut, let the shoelace down thru the hole put the new nut onto the lace and tied a larger bolt behind it, when your done let go of the shoelace it will drop to the ground...

I used the rmpc312 to put my solo seat on , and its about the price of a cup of DD coffee. Done in two minutes with a Plactic tie.

You have to be very careful with this type of fender rack. better to make legs that hit the frame instead. These wil ripple the fender with very little weight on it.

I used a piece of nylon twine looped around the threaded end of the bolt in a lark's head knot (aka "Cow's Hitch")... That gets the bolt and fender washer pulled up through the hole... I then put a rubber and stainless steel fender washer on the bolt after it has made it through the fender and then put a C-clip on it to keep it from falling back through... I then put the rear seat on and use one of the nuts that previously held down the black plastic wiring cover since the rear seat needed a nut that allows the front of the rear seat to slide into it... I believe that the actual Harley bolt probably has a ridge on it to fit in the key way of the hole in the rear fender... This allows you to install it without the help of someone with really small arms... Since I used off the shelf stainless steel parts instead of official Harley parts, I didn't have the ridge in the head of the bolt, so I ended up needing to get my daughter to lay on the ground and snake her arm up between the rear tire and the fender while holding a wrench so that she could prevent the bolt from turning while I tightened it...

Wonders never cease... Every once in awhile, she actually is useful...
