Fire/Rescue Model for 2007 (police type bike)

I live down in the South and you don't see many if any fire/rescue bikes.

Wanting to buy an '07 model w/ ABS.

I know the police bike is essentially the same thing but not to me.

Question is: Do the dealers have a way to search each others data base to see what is out there around the country or region.

or

Is there a better way for me to locate one.

The area dealers do not seem very interested since they don't have one the floor.

Thanks

I don't think you can buy a Police/Fire bike new from a dealer. You have to wait until they come off lease to buy. I also heard that the Police Dept removes the ABS before they get rid of them. Can anyone confirm this?

You can buy them new

No the ABS does not come off, no reason for it to because either the factory makes the bike with or without ABS. Also, you can find them new IF the dealer does not sell/lease the bike within 6 months they can decomission (remove any emergency lights) and sell it to John Q. Public.

I found this out because one of the local dealers tried to sell me a new one that they could not even get the locals to test it for their dept due to losing 1/2 of a saddlebag for ABS.

As far as getting a red one, I am sure the right dealer will do whatever it takes to get you to buy from them.

I went to my local dealer and ordered a new Road King police bike with ABS. If you go to HD's web site and find the police/fire bikes and hit the "specs" button and scroll all the way to the bottom you'll see numerous different colors that are available for $350 extra...I got the "dark peace officer blue" and I believe that fire engine red is a color option.

I got my bike with the wig-wags still hooked up as well as the red/blue lights still in place. I replaced the colored lights with clear and when I get my cruise control hooked up the wig-wag lights will be disconnected.

Thanks for the replies.

One question to 2007FLHP.

How were you able to get the dealer to sell to you. Is it a surplus bike, are you a motorcop, or?

The dealers I talk to tell me that it has to be ordered by a department and the request must be signed on official letterhead.

Thanks again.

The only folks who can order the real police bikes (not POSE bikes) are agencies or Shriners. I looked into this in detail for the last few years and finally ordered an Ultra under the Shrine program. Individual active or retired officers are not supposed to be able to order the actual police bikes. I also found that many dealers don't understand the police/fire bike, POSE/FFSE and Shrine programs at all.

I went to my local dealer, showed them my LEO identification, filled them in on the details of my escort business, dropped $7k down as a deposite, and drove off with my bike 4 months later...no drama.
