thanks to all who responded to my last problem....I think I'll just keep the tank filled and deal with it so here is my next issue!

I have a 2004 "retired" Mass State police electra glide that is in great shape paint-wise unfortunately it is still the VERY distinctive two tone Blue on Blue of the state police and I have been stopped TWICE since March! Now even though I am retired LEO, I still don't want this attention so I am exploring options...pinstriping looks to be around 500 and a "decent" paint job (it is a working bike, not a show piece) look to be running more like a grand and a lot of work

Question: should I stripe and deal or repaint??

Can anyone in my area recommend a "decent" paint guy?

Are you going to R&R the tins, or do you expect the painter to do so? Take the bike to an indy and see who he recommends. Most body shops have compentent enough painters for a good job. If you want graphics or something, you may need a special painter.

Make sure that the paint hardens properly, has clear coat, that it hardens properly, and that you use extreme care when putting it back together.

Paint it. If you pin stripe it will still look like a LE bike. When HD offered the Law Enforcement Dressers, Grey Blue with the six sided star on the tank, they were all the rage with the coppers in the city I work for. These bikes went from HERO to ZERO, almost instantly, they were knocked over, keyed, vandalized one way or the other.

Keep the original paint on don't strip it.HD moco paint will last for ever if taken care of, I would just have the paint monger wet sand to get it smooth and shoot over the original. My 85 LowRider has 4 different colors on it including the original coat and it is looking good

Another option for you would be to look on e-bay for a complete set of a color you like and then you could resell your tins to recoupe some of the cost. It's possible you could maybe even break even.

I opted to do some decals on mine, and a little paint on the side covers and air cleaner to de-cop mine at first. Mine right now is at Kustom Flames being painted by Pat a member of the board here.
