First thing I do is take off the air cleaner cover and check to make sure the accelerator pump is squirting into the carb. If it's not, you know you've got a problem getting fuel...

Are you sure the plugs are fireing?

You can also try aeresol "starting fluid." That gets my dad's shovel started after it's been sitting for a while. Just spray it in the air intake while you crank the starter.

Yea, that sounds like an ignition problem, not a carb. S&S carbs are pretty reliable.

And I think the G is too big for a sporty too.

As already mentioned, sounds like a spark issue.
Pull the plugs, and let them lay on the fins and wing it over, while watching them to see if any and spark is occuring.

I did not catch it earlier, that it was a G.
The signal is very low when those are on a 1200.
LARGE jets will/may be required to get it going.
Try a 36/80 for starters, and jet from there.

When the same thing happened to my FXR ( shorty e ), turned out to be a bad ignition module!
