Twin Cam turbocharger
anyone here have any turbo harleys? i picked up a turbo for my 99 dyna and was looking for any helpful hints. ive done quite a bit of research on the net about turboed harleys but always in for some good firsthand insight on the subject. right now all i have is SE open aircleaner, SE 203 cams and stock top end. plan on doing the 95ci big bore kit at the same time with Wiseco forged pistons, custom grind gear driven cams and obviously custom fabbed exhaust and intake. i am including a couple pics of bad ass turbo H-D's i found just cause theyre cool

We have a 120 inch EVO that may be coming in with a turbo for tuning. I do not know whos kit it is . WIll post pictures if the bike does get here. Customer has never ridden the bike. ??
The carb bikes tend to be easier to tune, the EFI bikes can be an issue as the the PC will work but the biggest issue is getting the system to work under boost and off. Once on boost the stock injectors run out. Huge injectors are needed and some are tuning with two systems like a SERT to control all areas off boost and the PC under boost. A system is needed with a two or three bar map sensor for the system to completely understand +/- boost. A pc can be used however the stock ecm does not understand what has been done to the engine, so starting, low speed drivablity suffers. A TTS can be used BUT plan to spend many many hours to tune.

whut you say willis? man, so you need to tune with sert for a basemap, then plug in PC3 to help control the gizmo and tune when the boost comes on? makes my brain hurt.

from what ive read and been told the bottom end will be good for just under 150hp turbocharged. remember im pre-03 so i dont have to worry about the roller bearing failure or converting it to timken. i am also running a mikuni at the moment and have seen turboed bikes run the mikunis so im gonna stick with that.
as mentioned before im starting out with a turbo and not much else so ill be fabbing up everything else. post up any and all pics. thanks

remember hillside said "impolite" imagine 300 psi compression or more when boost comes on, imagine not popping off, the next tank of bad fuel, etc. you really think you will stop at 149hp? come on man, its like the more ya get the better ya want.

I currently have a turbo Dyna in my shop with a Mikuni carb. The customer has been running this set up since 1996. Including three trips across country! Its a Aerocharger unit. They are variable vein and work much better with the odd exhaust pulses of the Vtwin. The Trask is a Garrett and is slower to boost with less hp/tq. I suggest talking with Brian at Turbo Connection in Rapid city SD. His website is boostisgood.com They make turbos for everything. Also are very friendly and help full.
Do you know what type unit you have?

I've experimented with a turbo on a 2003 Electra Glide 106 ci.
I made the conversion from scratch using a turbo off of a Volvo automobile. An inner-cooler will make a world of difference in the power.
What do you need to know?

I have a 97" turbo RK. Still sorting it out after "someone" put sugar in my gas tank. A great prank, had me stumped for a while. It would just rev to 3800, made 151 tq and 126 hp with no tuning. I look for 160 or so. It is Aerocharger, S & S cases, heavy duty rods, Axtell 97", heads by Old Glory, Zippers Pro Flow oil pump, HD Twin Cam piston oilers, intercooled, crashbar oil cooler, 6 speed Baker, Scorpion clutch, chain drive rear, Progressive rear shocks, Tru Trak, Race Tech front springs, lowered 1" both ends, totally blacked out, Dyna programmable ignition, Dyna timing boost rollback module, trueHID headlight, all other lights are LED, prolly some things I forgot.
Boost is a ton of fun on the street. Once you get it sorted out you won't go back. Most turbo setups will get you around 100+ hp and tq with just a stock motor. When you start to make alot more power a weak link will show up. Maybe several at one time. Hope this helps, Friday.
