For the past several years I have been involved with a great organiztion , the
Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation -
Ride for Kids program. The
Ride for Kids program in it's 26 year and has raised over
$50 million dollars for the fight against the biggest killer of children, namely brain tumors. Nine children every day are diagnosed with a brain tumor and 4 of every 10 children with a brain tumor will die. The organization is first rate with over 85% of the monies raised actually going to the cause, for research grants, family support, and college scholarship assistance for surviving children.
The
Ride for Kids program this year consists of
39 rides across the country (3 in Calif. alone of which the Los Angeles May 3 ride is one of), and is the main fundraising activity of the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. My dughter Amanda is now 22, a senior at UCLA and most importantly a brain tumor survivor. I invite you all in the LA area to come join us at the Los Angeles ride on May 3. The ride itself is about 1 1/2 hours starting at the Honda Headquarters building in Torrance, down to the beach, around the Palos Verdes Peninsula and then back to Torrance. The ride is of course police excorted (motor officers who in most cases volunteer their time). Last year there was 48 motor officers, about 800 bikes, and a beautiful ride around the peninsula. There is nothing like blowing through all the red lights with people lining the streets waving as you ride by. Last year the LA alone event raised more than $272,000 dollars for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and with your help we can beat that total this year.
Take this as a formal invitation to join us on May 3.
