Priorities at the Department of Justice??

So I was perusing current events this morning...

The Department of Justice made front page news today for a tiff they had with the makers of "Snuggie".

DOJ swears that Snuggies are clothes - but the manufacturer says they're blankets.

Thank God the U.S. Court of International Trade stepped in and sorted this one out. I can't imagine the international crisis that could have resulted if the DOJ hadn't flipped out over Snuggies.

someone at the US Department of Justice must have been caught wearing a snuggie and acting out Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter to spark up a silly debate.

So you read the headline, did you read the story and then go back to the original issue?

First this is an Obama admin case. Second it's a US government tariff enforcement action. Blankets are cheaper to import than clothing, so the maker wanted it's robes classified as blankets. Someone in the government thinks they were blankets and took the case to court.

That's what the DoJ does. The bulk of it's business relates to enforcing non criminal law. And because federal laws and regulations are poorly written and full of holes, it an endless task.

Yeah I read the article. I know it's a tax thing. But c'mon... making a federal case out of "what's a snuggie"?? I guess I just thought it was funny. You know... with everything else going on in the world and all.

Someone lodged a complaint, that's how it gets started. And if it's a dollar a unit, then its a multimillion dollar complainant.

Changing what something is called can save a lot of money when shipping to other countries.

Hopefully "Machine Parts" never gets misinterpreted as "Machine Guns"...
