100 people bike study

Intresting report on studying bike riding and accidents.

Seems unexpected we drop our bikes more than we admit and we run into people alot.

The article states a right hand turn is more difficult than a left hand turn. Weird.

I saw that, Perhaps the tighter radius. But prolly just dumped the right turn on red mishaps into the mix.

Her in PA we have Stop, except right turn. That causes some mishaps, especially where the other side is coming from Maryland. They see the back of the stop sign and assume that you have to stop, so will turn right into your path.

I don't like their math... "Researchers tried to break down rider behavior in crashes and near-crash incidents into two categories: aggressive riding or rider inattention or lack of skills."

Actually Honda has come up with a motorcycle to save us from falling over...AND it will substitute as a Puppy.

That was an interesting article. I guess we are our own worst enemy. Who knew that people dropped their bikes all the time? I dropped mine once and it cost me a thousand dollars. I never let that happen again (so far).

Hmmm. Is it just a coincidence that the publisher of the article is a major retailer of motorcycle rider gear?

I wonder how many people read that and thought it would be a good idea to buy another helmet. Hell, why not buy it from Revzilla!

How long ago did you dump your bike.

No sh*t! There is a "biker" bar just up the road from my house. I'm pretty sure a lot of people hang out there so they can blame it all on booze instead of a lack of riding skills.

Wait...what? Are you saying that the law in PA is...if you're making a right turn you don't have to STOP at the sign or redlight first?

Some stop signs have a sign under them that states, "except right turn".

Not to mention being obstructed by buildings and such.

I am pretty sure I have "dropped" everyone of my bikes once. Usually just after getting it and always while trying to move it with the motor off.

On the other hand rode with a fellow back in the day. We were out, minding our own business, perhaps we had a beverage or two. Anyhow we come up on an intersection and there is an officer across from us. Not wanting to draw attention to ourselves we decided to come to a full stop. Unfortunately my buddy forgot to put his foot down.

If you have ever seen Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In you will understand the look of utter confusion as his bike stood there a second and then just tipped right on over. The most amazing part of the whole thing is the cop pulls through the intersection, rolls down his window, asks if we are OK, and then just drives on.

Some people live a charmed life!
