TOTAL ankle replacement

So, I'm 3 days post-op (total right ankle replacement) and I'm pretty excited about my future prospects of walking normally and pain-free again. Here are a few pics in the history of my injury:

This is the day of the accident - 5 March 2010

This is what it looked like after reducing the injury at Baltimore shock/trauma:

The surgeon who installed the new ankle said there was arthritis in every nook/cranny and he was surprised that I could walk on it at all. I had NO cartilage left.

This is what it looked like after the surgery on Friday:

So, I should be well on my way back to "normal" by January.

True, Fred...but I really wish my dirt bikes had electric start as well. The surgeon said that once I'm totally healed up, I should be able to kick them over without personal injury. I know I'll at least wear boots. The RMX 250 kicks over easily...the XR600...not so much

I am alive now thanks to modern medicine. Hope the operation works well for you, too.

Great to hear you are back at it. Walking is something we all take for granted until it's not an option. Therapy, therapy, therapy.

Good luck with the recovery. That break looked nasty!

BTW, what kind of oil do you have to run in that new one?

Congrats! Best of luck with your ankle!

I got my ankle totally fused over ten years ago. I wasn't a good candidate for an artificial one and I think they were still working on getting them right.

I am pretty happy with my ankle, just had to give up my dream of being on "Dancing with the stars"...

I think we "talked" about this before...

But yes, having an ankle that moves is a good thing and I hope it works out great for you! If it doesn't and you want to know more about fusion, I am here.
