Riding in the NYS Capital Region

I grew up and lived in the Syracuse area my whole life. I've traveled the roads around the Adirondacks and Fingerlakes countless times. I moved to the Capital Region and was looking forward to new roads to try.

After nearly a summer's worth I can highly recommend the region. In just a few miles from from Downtown Albany you can be in the Catskills, the Adirondacks, Lake George and Saratoga, the Hudson River, The Berkshires and Vermont. absolutely beautiful and some truly great winding roads to tie it all together.

If you get the chance to ride the region do it you won't be disappointed.

I rode the Catskills Labor Day weekend. This ride was better than anything I've found in the Adirondacks, so far. I wish I knew the area, I would tell you the route. But I remember riding for 8-10 miles up a long and windy road, with a small lake on top, then another 8-10 windy miles on the other side. Very nice!

PS: Sig pic from overlook on the Deleware nearby.

NYS Capital Region & then some...

I rode with BH-D H.O.G. on Sunday. Left the shop at about 9:30 & took a ride around the Tomhannock Reservoir to Rt22, Then up to 22A, which we took up thru Vergennes & into Burlington, Vt...
Had lunch & took the Ferry ride across Lake Champlain to Port Kent, NY & came back down Rt 22.
Nice ride for the most part...hit a little rain near Vergennes & it got a tad chilly when the cold front came thru, but the roads were in good shape for most of the ride.
Got home about 7:30...306 miles round trip.

Just about time for the fall foliage rides. We did the twisties around the near central southerntier this afternoon and got a taste of some cool long autumn shadows and some color change. The next 2 or 3 weeks will bring it on from North to South in a hurry. If you haven't seen it, you can't imagine it and no picture will ever do it justice.

Here's a good link if your trying to time it: http://fallgetaways.iloveny.com/foliage_report.html

Supposed to get some warm days and cool dry nights this week that should be ideal for leaf change and apple ripening!

Rte 97 from Port jervis up to Calicoon NY is one of my favorite roads,Hugs the Delaware River all the way............Usually start around Bear Mountain and catch Rte 6 and take that to either 97(to calicoon ) or RTE 209 north to Kingston in Catskills then cross over kingston(RhinecliffI)Bridge to one of my favorite towns Rhinebeck NY on Rte 9
