I just did this ride, via Laconia. I grew up Just North Of PO town. As for hotels depending on the money you want to spend I stayed at the Cottonwood inn in the village of Millbrook, pricey and not upto date but close to town. On the other hand there are some chains down in po town just off of 84 @ rt 9. We rode thru the towns of washington, beekman, unionvale and northeast some beautiful views. The Millbrook Diner is an old fashioned diner with regular american fair. As for pubs my choice is the ROAD HOUSE, Rt 44 in Pleasant Valley NY foods ok, nice pup, bartender is cool and Seany B's 3264 franklin st, Millbrook NY. Riding over the Mid hudson bridge is cool also the beacon newburgh bridge is cool. OCC is exit 7s I think then take a right on 17 and it is on the left. Harley shop is Rt 300 on the right past wally world. (highly recommended btw we had an issue and then took care of us and didnt charge us.) points of interest FDR's home is on rt 9 in Hyde Park, the Culinary institute of American is also there. Also I always take the NJTP to 287n to 87n to 84... avoid the city and not too bad of a ride... if your super slabbing it... routes to take 82, 44, Rt 9,Taconic state parkway, rt 22. In poughkeepsie you can go down to the river front and its all redone and pretty nice so I hear... oh and call ahead for hotel reservations... last year I had a real hard time riding up and "finding" a hotel they were all no vacancy. (poughkeeepsie side of the river) oh and get gas before you get off the NJTP like around exit 7 or so if you are on 287 and looking for fuel that is a hassle...
