Maryland/DC area engine build
At some point this year I'll be doing an engine build. I don't think I'm going to attempt it myself, so I need to find someone qualified in the area. I've spoken to ACP in Glen Burnie, MD, but no one else. I'm interested in the GMR 98" package or a homegrown 95". Is there anyone else in the area (NOVA through Baltimore/Annapolis) I should be talking to?

Hey Train, this must be a bad area for engine mods. I have been checking back all day to see if any replies. I look all the time here and the other forum for some information about this within a reasonable distance. Seems like they all are hundreds of miles away. I too live in close proximity to you (Wash.,DC area) MD. Hopefully you will get a hit or two.

Hopefully some of the NOVA guys will find this thread. I know there are a bunch of them who have big bore builds.

Did you try Zippers . They have a shop to . There right in Elk Ridge. You also have Eastern Performance. I don't know how the work is there. I do all my own, but I have talked to guy who deal at both.

The last time I was in Zippers, they didn't have a shop. That was maybe two months ago. Eastern does good work, but I wasn't aware they did engines.

Call me lazy, but I really want to deal with a place that's local. If there's an issue, I don't want to worry about trailering the bike 500 miles to get it fixed.
Nothing against those guys, I'd just prefer to deal closer to home.

HD of Frederick built 2 engines for me and had no problems. Now I do have issues with their service dept but that must be a separate business unit.

Did Zippers move from the Industrial Park on Amberton Drive? When I was there a few years ago they gave me tour of the facility, and they had the most impressive machine shop, and engine building facility I had seen in a long time. It would be easy to think the rather small showroom is all there is to it.....but its not.

They're still there, but I specifically asked about installation for one of their big-bore kits and they suggested I check with a few local builders. I asked the guy at the counter if they could do it, and he said, "no, we don't have a shop any more".
