I haven't been there in 10 years, but I have heard that they are pulling over everyone with loud pipes and giving out fines. I'm not sure if this is still the case but be carefull.

New Hope is not very biker friendly and frequently and agressively ticket bikes for most noise. See the Borough Council FAQ link http://www.newhopeborough.org/faqs.htm for their comment regarding ticketing biker for parking vilations......I used to go there often when I had stock pipes but now avoid. Rt 32 along Delaware river is nice ride.

After Digging into the New Hope Borough Code of Ordinances, I came across the following regarding noise from motorcycles:
(5) Repairing, rebuilding, modifying, testing, or operating a motor vehicle, motorcycle, recreational vehicle or powered model vehicle in such a manner as to cause annoyance to persons across a real property boundary from the noise source.
(a) All motorcycles built or rebuilt after 1982 and all car engines will be operated at or below the decibel level of 86 consistent with 42 U.S.C. § 4905; 40 CFR 205 Subparts D and E.
(b) All motorcycles driven through New Hope Borough must be equipped with a muffler that meets legal requirements as defined by Pennsylvania Motor Vehicle Inspection Law and the decibel levels set forth in Subsection C(5)(a) above.

They do give out tickets for loud pipes. They also give out tickets for parking outside the white lines in the parking spaces. Play by their rules though and it's still a nice place to go on Sunday mornings for breakfast at biker friendly Lulu's. Lots of bikes from HD's of course to metrics to trikes on occassion. My wife and I try to get over there every Sunday, weather permitting. Can't really give you any good roads coming down from L.I. You might try Route 1 to I-95 South to the New Hope exit which is the first exit when you enter PA from NJ on I-95.

They have eased most of the restrictions that were once implemented. They were loosing business with the loss of bike traffic.Parking restrictions(for bikes) have been eased, however constantly over-reving the bike will get you ticketed.Loud bikes are tolerated, but the over-reving will get you in trouble.Their are several scenic ways to get there.Very nice town.Definitely a HD biker town on the weekends. All the eateries are fairly good.Go early ,because it gets crowded.

I would recommend I scenic route through through part of NJ. Take Interstate 78 West to the Pittstown Exit (rt. 513) south to Pittstown and stop at the Pittstown Inn. Continue south on 513 to Frenchtown, you can then go south to New Hope from either side of the Delaware river (NJ - rt. 29 or PA rt. 32) the PA side is a nicer ride. Another possibility would to get off 78 further west at Pattenburg and Stop at the Pattenburg INN, then use some the the county roads to make your way towards the Delaware River/Frenchtown area and head south.

Just rode through New Hope today and the police were pulling bikes over by the bridge and checking the decible levels. The town was absolutely loaded with bikes. Seems to me that they get about 60% of their business from bikers, but then turn around and ticket them! Doesn't make sense.

Well I made my first trip there last weekend and it was packed with bikes and the cops were polite but were ticketing cars and bikes that were even an inch over the white parking space lines...Something I have never seen before. Other wise I thought it was a great place to go.
There were however lots of guys on bikes who just went down the street (there was a constant traffic jam thru town) needlessly bliping their throttles and reving their engines I guess to get people to look at them?? It was totally uncalled for and if I lived there I would be pissed and happy to see them ticket the idiots.
People who do this deserve what ever they get and ruin it for the rest of us.

I've been there twice this year and no problems, the guys that were collecting the quarters from the meters even opened the meter and gave me like 4hrs--really nice people there...On the way home take rte 611 North all along the Delaware River, you can stop at the Riverside Bar where bikers are abundant and welcome,Once you leave there further up 611 you can Catch 80West and Scoot back to the GWB fast...I think you have to take 32 to 611 but check it out i'm not sure from the top of my head.

Just there about 3 weeks ago.. Best day is a Saturday... No problems... Just park inside the white lines.. No problems with 2 bikes in a spot.. maybe even 3 in some places... Just behave and no blipping throttles, and you will have yourself a nice afternoon...
