Looking for Tips in the Finger Lakes NY area

We are headed up the the Finger lakes region in a couple of weeks and will be staying in Corning. Does anyone have any suggestions for rides or must-see places that we should put on our agenda?

you can cruise up and down the lakes, take the bike down some of the side roads that run along the lake, you can go to the grand canyon of the east in pa, rt. 6 is a great road, we stayed at the raddison a couple of times, the rooms were reasonable, and last time was the ferrari meet, so the place was swamped with ferraris, its also right at the end of main st. so you can hit the bars then walk back if you are into that. I am sure a local will get more specific, its beautiful up there, my neice goes to school in geneva so I have been there a couple of times. The corning museum is pretty cool too.

Cave,
Not sure if this comes too late, but I'll give it a shot anyway.

First of all, you'll be riding in some of the most beautiful country in the N.E. Coming out of Corning, head first to Watkins Glen State Park. Dismount and take the hike through the Glen, it'll cost you a couple bucks to park is all. Don't miss it!

From there ride up along the east side of Seneca Lake. If you have time, take a wine tour, they're alot of fun, though more fun for your rider than you! Once you get North to Geneva, you can find a place for a late lunch, and then head west on 20 to Canandaigua.

You can head into Mount Morris if you want to see the Dam, or if you're like me you'll want to go the 1941 Historical Aircraft Museum in Geneseo. (The air show is July 12). From there head into Perry and Letchworth State park.

That should bring you to dinnertime and least. At that point you can choose to catch the express back to Corning, or take a more leiisurely ride through the back roads. If its starts to get dark, WATCH FOR DEER!!

Have a nice vacation!

we just got back from that area....great ride. I would opt for the Adirondacks instead tho, iffin you have a choice. Better roads, better sights and fewer poeple. Being from the midwest, I was really impressed with the beauty of upstate N.Y. I was not at all impressed with the roads in Vermont. The pic in my signature was taken alongside Glimmerglass Lake in upstate NY.

Thanks for the tips gang. I'm headed up there this weekend so it's not too late. I like the Adirondacks too but I'll save that trip for one with more time. I haven't been to the area since I was a kid so I'm looking forward to it. I'll post an update next week.

Go to the Glenn Curtiss museum on Rt. 54 in Hammondsport. He was a motorcycle and aviation pioneer.
http://www.glennhcurtissmuseum.org/museum/about.htm
Stop in to Maloneys Pub on the corner downtown for a cold one. Then take Rt. 54A north along Keuka lake to the town of Branchport. Then take Rt 364 west over to Rt 53 into the town of Naples. Stop at the Middletown Tavern, great food and its a biker bar. Leave there on route 21 north to ride up along Canandaigua lake, the best views of any of the finger lakes barnone. You will climb at alot higher elevation next to the lake for some really nice views. Then i would take Rt 20 west over on to the town of Hemlock. Stop at the Hemlock grill for a cold one, then hit Rt 15 south which takes you down the side of Hemlock lake, awesome views there. No boats or cottages along that lake, just pristine views. Stop midway at the www.thehawgbarn.com An independent HD dealership, buy a tshirt there if you want. Really cool shop. Theres also conesus, honeyoe, and canadice lakes really close by to Hemlock. Trust me, you would really enjoy the ruralness of that area alot better than the heavier traffic and bigger towns of Seneca and Cayuga and you could do that trip in way less than a day.
You didnt say how long you were staying, but if you gots the time, i would definetly try to hit the http://www.dinosaurbarbque.com/ in Rochester, the best bbq in the state, if not the whole dang country. You could hit Conesus lake on that leg of the tour.
Take it from me, ive lived here all my life P.S. STop into McHales on Bridge Street if you like the dancing arts. LOL
