I posted here several months ago about selling my GL1800 and finally moving "up" to an Ultra. I tend to mow through bikes pretty quickly as I wear them out or get tired of them. I've had 11 "metric" bikes (mostly Honda) since I bought my first one in '77. Many of the people I ride with, run HD. I've experienced first-hand what a breakdown in the middle of nowhere is like. This reliability artifact was the reason I kept buying non-Harleys. I generally put 20-25K miles on each year, I'm not a mechanic nor am I made of money. WIth the exception of the reliability, HD has always been a work of art in my opinion. The bikes are beautiful. I've been watching the reports on the TC88 motor since they came out in '99. Seems to be pretty much bullet-proof. Having said than, I sold my Goldwing last month and took the plunge on an '04 Sierra Red FLHTCUI yesterday. I haven't stopped grinning yet. As an added bonus, my wife reports that the buffeting that forced her to wear goggles on the wing was non-existant on the Ultra. This is a great bike. It's also my commuter. Rode it to Seattle to work this morning. This is a great web-site. I've learned much from you all, already. Ride safe.
UltraBob, you sound VERY much like me with regard to motorcycles....and you've got the exact bike I just bought. Thanks for the information on how the bike rides. I would love to see any digital pics you have.
