The Story, Short Version

Hey all'

35yrs old, got kids, got an ole lady....etc.

Why a Harley?

Well, My Dad rode one. Had a 68 heritage softail. You could pretty well tell how well he was doing by the kind of shape his bike was in. If it was missing parts and under a tarp in the garage, we were eating beans and fry bread. If the ole Harley was primped and purring, we was eating steak.

Unc. (my dads best friend and my mothers older brother) owned a small harley shop for twenty years.

So, I know how to wrench on a harley. I am also a Millwright by trade. And fairly successful (lately anyway).

I dont ride with or belong to a club like Dad and Unc. did. To may posers and puzzy wanna be's in most clubs ive seen lately. The ones without the posers seem to have too many of the ones without any real substance. trouble waiting for a pile of sh*t to step in. So, I ride alone. For now.

I ride a 97, evo powered Road King. I prefer the evo. The twin cam doesnt impress me, aint sure what the point of it was, and Dads shovelhead was a pain the ass (for him) at times. I ride every day. My Roadie is my ride, unless it's pouring rain, then I got a ford van.

Here to read, and lend help when I can. And Talk with V twin minded guys who know some sh*t about riding and tuning Harley's.

Welcome

It's good to have you on the forum. My father had a 74 cu. in. side valve back in the late 30's, and grandfather rode H-D's and Indians in his younger days....though he settled for small Asian bikes when he was in his 70's.
You kinda' feel the presence riding with you of those who influenced you in your formative years.
I'm sure your father's bike was a grand old machine, but the Softails didn't come along 'till '84.

Thanks mike! for the welcome.

Actually, Pops old bike was an FLH model with a shovelhead. But to the older bikers, there was only two types. Hard tails, and soft tails. And a sprung seat was still a hard tail if it didnt have any shocks on the ass end.

And yeah, like yours, today he rides a Yamaha Stratoliner. Still has the ole glide though. Ill see if I cant dig up and scan in an old photo, I think you'de like it.

Happy to be here.
