New Guy From North Georgia

I am from a little town called Dahlonega in north geargia. I have had several harleys but I recently purchased a 1984 softail. I love the bike and look forward to keeping it for a long time. I do have an issue with the bike that maybe someone can advise me on. When I try to start it with the key it will at times just click..but if you try it a couple more times it will often turn over and fire up. The battery seems to be fine, the lights are bright and they do not dim when it turns over. Has anyone run across a problem like this? Thanks for any help you can give me....

Welcome from just across your north border.

Check for a loose cable connection or put the battery on a tester. Batteries are funny things. I thought my last one was ok too, right up until I finally replaced it.

Welcome

Welcome to the Forum
I am originally from Dawsonville. Moved to Milledgeville 12 year ago.
This Forum has been a great help to me.
On the click click then start. Have the battery checked and clean every connection first. I would also want to know if it cranks every time with a battery booster connected. This would indicate a bad battery. What is the battery voltage at rest and when cranking. Should be around 13 at rest and not drop to far when cranking. Another thought would be to use a jumper on the starter just to see if you get similar results.
