Old School
Now residing in Virginia. Learned to ride in Texas in 1961 on an old 40's vintage flathead Indian. Bought my 1st HD Sportster 900 in 69. Rode throughout my USN service years in the submarine navy. Obtained a 48 Pan in 71 and rode it in various configurations until 89. Moved to a Shovel Head and kept it until early 2000. Picked up a 2006 FLSTC that I ride now. New models are very reliable, but just don't have the heart and soul of the old 74's. I suppose my age shows.

No more kickstarts that added to the fun. A few simple tools and a Ford wrench for the axle nut and you could overhaul the old ones on the side of the road.

welcome and thanks for living under the sea.
the blood you spilled with those tools on the side of the road are what gave that bike it's soul. My 20 something brain misses that, my 60 something body don't. Sounds like you might be older than dirt too.

had a 69 sporty myself. still have a pain in my right leg (Ross cartilage).... ripped it when the kicker gear slipped and I went through on a hard kick. motor then kicked back when the mag fired. threw me over the bars and then 11 days on crutches.
been beside the road when the rivets sheered on the sprocket also.
love the old stuff myself. but also love taking off on 4-5 thousand mile rides without the wondering???
thanks for the service to our country
