Need help planning a day trip in MT & WY

We are riding from Texas to Sturgis 07....we will stay in Rapid City from Mon thru Thurs.

Thurs morning we will ride to Billings...should be no problem via Hwy 90 & 375 miles.

Fri morning we want to set sail for our day trip...Billings to Red Lodge - Beartooth Pass - Cooke City - Tower Junction - South thru Yellowstone to Jackson. About 300 miles of I'am assuming slow but beautiful riding....

Question:
Do this sound like a good plan and do-able in a day?

I'd love to hear from anyone that has some insight on this plan.

Thanks in advance

Rapid to Billings, no problem for a day trip, you can run 90 at 90 easy. Your other "day trip" will be alot more fun if you make it two days although you can "make it" in a day. Not from that area but been through those rides several times.
Just from my experience, A way funner trip if you play it a little looser. I know this is hard for alot of people and use to be for me too. I came to this conclusion kicking and fighting it the whole way. Now me and my buddy go on an annual ride for two weeks and barely set a final destination point, just a direction and try to stay completely off the interstate. It's a nice trip you are taking there, I'm just saying I'd take an extra day especially if the weather is decent and you haven't been there before, your gonna want to slow down a little in Yellowstone. Just my two cents....
Of course, you are going both ways and you've only told us about getting to the destinations, If you are gonna take more time coming home, not a hard make at all but definately an all day 300 miles...

Good point adlerx,

My buddy and I try to do the same and one of our best trips was out of L.A. and we decided we'd just go through Death Valley cause we'd never been. Turned out great and when it's just the two of us we usually toss any kind of schedule and check the map for what looks best as far as the ride.

Thanks,

We are now spending another day in the area...were not pressed for time.

While it hasn't been on a scoot, been through some of the "day trip" area you referred to and I have to agree with adlerx re: the extra time. Yellowstone alone, just to see the highlights, can take a day. It is amazing and beutiful country and much like a fine wine, needs to be savored.

2 years ago my bro John and I took off for 3 weeks.Hit the Redwood run to start, then hit the June Jam (Weber Utah ABATE)for 3 days. That was our only plan. We slept till check out at the motels and planned our days ride according to the weather. Covered alot of the west, hit the little bighorn on June 25th,the gates were open for free to the public,so we rode our bikes all the way in and did the tour on 2 wheels. We ended up in N. ca,Nevada,Utah,Idaho,Wyoming Montana,Colorado and Arizona on that trip. I agree it's best to keep the planning to a minimum.
About 2 months after we got back from that trip John and his 22 yr old son were killed in a car accident,so that trip has a special meaning to me.
