CO-133 from Delta to Glenwood Springs

Anybody ave any experience with this road? We were thinking of taking it as we meander towards Billings this summer. We will be coming up from Durango and going to hook up with some folks in Glenwood Springs. Thought it might be a nice alternative to the slab.

Any help would be appreciated.

sorry, don't have any experience on this road, but I do have an alternative for you to consider. My only hesitation suggesting this is that it is a longer route from Durango to Glenwood than what your talking about. I've never heard of any negatives about 133, and I'm sure it's a lovely ride. But, I have ridden the one I review below and highly recommend it.

In summary: Durango north to Montrose, Montrose east to Salida, then Salida north towards Leadville. However, before you reach Leadville take route 82 towards Aspen, and this leads all the way to Glenwood.

Once you reach Salida, the route travels along the headwaters of the Arkansas River, parallels the "collegiate peaks" range (several 14k mtns), and then over Independence Pass down into Aspen. The pass road is a great ride and I've found Aspen to be biker friendly - just don't be stupid..

If you are just meandoring try this. Durango to South Fork on 160, South Fork to Gunnison on 149, then West on 50 to 92. Take 92 to Hotchkiss, then 133 to Glenwood Springs.

The route through Aspen as described above is also a great ride.

I live in bloomfield, NM just South of Durango, so if you would be interested, maybe we could meet somewhere for a beverage, photo and chat as you come through. We are also going to be in Billings so maybe a meet there would be possible.

We leave here for Billings on June 25. We are going to go to the Idaho State HOG Rally in Boise, ID. on the way to Billings.

Regards,

Bill

Hell guy's! Thats my ol' stoppin grounds! Both routes are good! I suggest doing them both.
The ride by the collegiate peaks is well worth your while.......what a ride! Be sure to take a slicker.
Keep the shiney side up!

You may want to detour to Crawford, Colo and see if "Joe Cocker's" Mad Dog Cafe is still open. I heard that they may have closed the cafe but the store is still supposed to be open.
