Rally in the Rockies @ Ignacio
Who's been to this rally in the past? Sounds like a much better attended and organized event.

Years ago I went. It was great then. However, they've been plagued in recent years by disagreements about venues, and perhaps even competing events on the same weekend. I'm not sure of all the details.

4 Corners is still an excellant rally, last year 40k showed up. There is lots of good riding in the mountains and the rally grounds has plenty to do for a day, which is enough because Durango is a happeneing spot as well especially at night.
But wait. There will be competition this year up in the Loveland area north of Denver I believe somebody is putting on another rally with "Name" entertainment I have seen the advertisement in Thunder Press, so 4 Corners will have some competition, which may help regulate the 100+ rooms if you can get one for that.
If you never been , I definetly recommend it. We're going to Street Vibrations in Reno this year instead!

Definitely Rally in the Rockies
As far as competition goes, the Loveland Thunder in the Rockies is charging an arm and a leg for parking, each event, each concert and so on and so forth. Rally in the Rockies is all inclusive, plus better scenery (I think anyway!) Loveland had "free admission" on their site forever. People must have started bitching because they finally put up "free to grounds only" and "buy your tickets here".
I also would like to make sure people know the the Rally in the Rockies is NOT canceled. NOT I say! They had this rumor problem last year too from the old Iron Horse people and it caused a lot of panick for the vendors, not to mention the people who had already bought tickets. Here's a news release.
IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM
FOUR CORNERS RALLY IN THE ROCKIES:
Unfortunately, as in the past two years, the rumor that the Four Corners Rally in the Rockies is canceled has once again surfaced. We at the Four Corners Rally in the Rockies want to assure everyone that it is NOT canceled and WILL NOT be canceled this year, nor has it moved from its location in Ignacio, Colorado. If you listened to the rumors for the past few years, you missed a great party and this year will be even better! This motorcycle rally held in beautiful Durango and Ignacio Colorado has great new events such as Pro Wrestling and The Guess Who in concert, plus all of our annual events that will keep everyone busy all weekend. Please call the promoter Dan at 888-901-7701 or Kim with the Durango Tourism Office at 800-525-8855 if you have questions concerning the rumors. We look forward to seeing you September 1-5 for THE Labor Day weekend motorcycle event!

I went to Ignacio last year and spent a day there. Spent the rest of the time in Durango. They did have the demo fleet there last year (Ignacio) but this year it's at Loveland and I'll be there as well. I was really not impressed with the rally itself, but the area in general is great (I live in SC).

Yep, think I try the Thunder in the Rockies this year. My nephew works at the Bud plant up there so I'll combine the rally with a family visit, maybe spend the night and check out rally activities again the next day.
later edit: I was not impressed with the rally, although it was a decent and clean venue. First year growth I suppose and the turnout seemed decent. But, they might have a hard time getting return customers next year and building on it if most people left feeling as I did. They need more big name vendors and attractions other than the big name bands that played (at extra cost). The guys on the stunt bikes were pretty awesome, although I didn't see more than a good handful of people watching them. $6 beer is Sturgis price, not the price of a Bud with the plant 10 miles up the road.

I spent friday night through sunday afternoon at rally in the rockies. I thought it was pretty ok. Concerts were good and the boobies were also decent. How was the Thunder for those who went?

I thought it was pretty lame. But I road from Rapid City to Pikes Peak first so it's all good.

Just got back from Loveland. I wasn't too impressed with the rally, but Thunder Mountain Harley was nice. We went Friday afternoon and again Saturday afternoon. Here's a newspaper clip about the "great" turnout.

I live about 50 miles from Durango, and went this year to Ignacio, had a good time, but it was down a little from previous years. They have been getting better about security issues and such with the SOS running security this year.
As for the Thunder in the Rockies, there's a lawsuit on them from the Ignacio guys, as the name is trademarked by the Rally in the Rockies crew. I haven't heard anything lately, but last word in the papers was if the Loveland rally continued, they would have to pay all proceeds to Ignacio crew, and some other stiff fines. Might be under a different name next year.
Ignacio brings many here for the great scenery rides. I get to enjoy them whenever I want, so I just go there for the boobs and beer..

The lawsuit is lame in this matter. The owner of this rally is sue happy. There are rumors that he is even trying to sue HD for moving the Demo Fleet from Ignacio to Loveland.
I did not miss this rally for the first 9 years of it's existence, and was even on the board of directors for a couple of years.
Under the present management, and with the politics that are now going on, I wouldn't attend this rally for it.
Just an opinion.
Regards,
Bill
