3 Colorado Rallies this weekend. Which one?

Colorado riders...there are 3 rallies this weekend in southern part of the state. 1. Rocky Mtn Iron in Salida. 2. Pueblo West MC Classic and 3. Southern Colorado BikeFest in Pueblo.

Anyone with experience at any of these? Which ones are worth attending? I've checked their web sites but the entertainment value is tough to gauge from that. I have a room reserved so far in Salida, but would like to know if it's worth traveling thru Pueble for one of those rallies. What would you recommend?

I don't know of any others, but wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't another one somewhere in the state. I'd like to hear about them.

Thanks.

I'd go to Salida, It'd be a nice ride down to Pueblo/Pueblo West on US 50 if you wanted to check those out too. They were pusing Salida as an alternative for Red River this year, so it got a lot of publicity (for whatever that's worth).

Wow, you're welcome! Most folks understand that there is a button along the menu the reads "New Posts", when clicked it will take them to the latest post no matter where its located on the board. Then some folks also realize there are specifc areas for specific questions........

Woo Hoo! I just managed to get some extra time off this weekend, so I'll probably head to Salida on Sunday for a day trip, then maybe Pueblo on Monday.

Hope things pick up for the weekend. I'll be there Saturday and early Sunday. Then heading back to Denver fairly early in hopes of beating the expected traffic backups.

Well, We went to the Salida Rally today (Sunday). We got there about noon. Weather was great. On the plus side, parking was a breeze. There were maybe 50 bikes at the rally site. A fair number of vendors, especially considering the lack of customers. We stayed at the fairgrounds for about 45 minutes, then headed into town. They had the historic downtown area barricaded off for bikes only. Good thing, I don't know how you could have got the 100 or so bikes in with regular traffic. However, it was a nice day, and was sort of fun. It was also interesting that the little Salida Police Department was all out, and they'd brought cops in from at least one other department. If they had 3 more, they'd have had a cop for each attendee. However, there was certainly no sign they were trying to be heavy-handed.

Anyway, we took the other way back, and had a great ride, in great weather. If you didn't catch this rally this year, I sort of suspect you've missed your chance. I doubt it will be repeated.

I have that feeling as well. I was there off and on Saturday and sounds like attendance mayb have been a little better then. During the afternoon there was probably a steady count of about 100 bikes in the parking lot. I chatted with a few vendors and they weren't especially happy about the lack of business. There were a few sporadic spurts of customers but not a lot of buyers. I found a nice shady spot just outside the vendor building and did a lot of people watching - interesting stuff.

I had not been in Salida before had and found it to be a real nice little mountain town. Several of the merchants mentioned that the organizer/newspaper had been touting thousands and thousands of bikes (as many as 10,000) so the city was prepared for a lot of activity - probably both good business activity as well as the mischievous type. In think there was plenty of disappointment to go around - organizer(s), attendees, vendors and the town as a whole.

Yeah, I was sort of surprised it disn't do better. It's a real nice ride from anywhere on the front range; a great town; and the weather couldn't have been better. Maybe you'd have to see what some of the other rallies that are huge now started out as to compre fairly, but I sure got the impression a lot of people were losing money on the deal. Too bad really.

I did get to see a wet t-shirt contest. 4 of the contestents shouldnt have been up there and the other 2 were borderline. I said screw it for sunday and rode over wolf creek into pagosa springs. Just as many bikes there as there was at the rally.

Yea, I watched the bikini contestants leave the main building for the rodeo stage for the bikini contest. As I had just eaten a spicy hot dog, kettle corn and warm bear, I decided my stomach was queasy enough already so I didn't torture myself any further.
