April in Colorado
I am planning a trip to Denver in April 20th and need to know if the weather would permit me riding my heritage. It would be a lot easier on gas than than suburban but don't want to be a frozen snow man when I arrive. Lol

Last year I did a cross country ride. This was in May, 2011. The plan was to ride back to California across Colorado during the third week of May. Turned out there was a winter storm that just sat over the states of Colorado, Wyoming and Montana for a week and did not move. It was snowing in the mountains every day. So we headed south to New Mexico to get back to California. Had we been there the week before, we would have had an easy time getting across Colorado. So you take your chances crossing Colorado in April or May. It could be nice, but you could hit a lot of snow.

April is a transition time here - it could be 80; it could be 35. I don't discount the threat of winter weather until about mid-May. Even so, riding here in April is definitely possible. The average last frost is April 10 and the average high temperature in April is 62F.
Will your trip take you to Denver or through Denver? The difference is significant. Like Michael said, crossing the mountains during that time of the year is a roll of the dice. The mountains see significantly more snow than the greater Denver area does. If Denver is the farthest west you will be going you stand a much better chance of motorcycle-friendly weather.
My recommendation would be to wait until much closer to your trip date before making the decision.

My plans are to ride to Denver. And check out the town. It would be the farest west I've been although I may return on a southern route just for a rode trip

Then you ride should be a lot easier. It may be a bit cold and wet, but no snow is likely in western Kansas or eastern Colorado. Again, snow is possible, but highly unlikely. Going south into New Mexico and and back through Texas gives you a bunch of possibilities for getting back to western Kentucky. It's all good.
Do you plan on riding the super slab or taking secondary roads to Denver? I did the super slab last year and it was ok but I would rather have had the time to take the secondary roads, all of which are excellent roads, just not as fast. I get more of a feel of the area and the people by staying away from the Interstates. Nice to start conversation with the locals and find out what's happening.

Speaking of weird weather, I just missed a bunch of tornadoes on my cross country ride last year. It was all in the month of May, and I passed through a bunch of communities that had been hit by massive tornadoes the week before. The destruction is beyond description. You've all seen the pictures. It is much more heartbreaking in person.

After 25 years in Denver, I can tell you that it has 2 seasons, winter and the 4th of July. Unless you are in the mountains, then the 4th is ify.
They have come a long way with weather forcasting, so check it a couple weeks before you leave, cause April is really ify even in Denver. But, as they say in Colorado, if you don't like the weather, just wait 10 minutes, it will change.

Take the bike and don't be to concerned. I rode through in may and it was raining in denver/ snowing on the pass, But I got around it by heading south/ north. Just ride and see the area.

April in Colorado(Denver Area) is still a considered a snow/rain month. Most of the time it is snow. We have had some of our worst blizzards in April. It is the heavy wet kind too. Not the powder of Dec-Feb. We have had warm days but by the 3 week of April you can plan a ride just make sure to bring your warm clothes because it will be cold at night. May offers the better riding as most of time it is alot warmer days. If you go to the mountains...more than likely you will be snowed on. You might want to drive..I would.

If you're staying east of the Rockies, going I assume from Kentucky, you are generally good to go to eastern Colorado. Start heading into the mountains though and that is a real crapshoot in April.

Stay south come see us in Grand Junction Colorado. Just carry the gear with you. Last year during my eastern plains tour I got snowed on coming back up through Trinidad over hwy 50. It is part of the deal. Holler if you get this far west. I am always willing to melt some tires tread off riding.
