Riding Sadona AZ

Have a trip planned for 5/11 to the Sadona area. Got to get out of this UT cold. Never been, heard the desert riding is nothing short of awe inspiring. Any suggestions? Thanks.

You heard right. That area is beautiful.
From Utah you can go down through Flagstaff. I recommend a stop at The Flagstaff Brewing Company. The Lowell Observatory is in Flagstaff too.
The ride from Flagstaff (I'm thinking about 20 miles)NOT ON THE INTERSTATE to Sedona is awesome through the canyon. There are a couple of camping areas in between if you're doing that.
The scenery has to be experienced to appreciate. Red rock mountains in high desert flora.
All roads in and around Sedona give great views. A highpoint (and tourist thing to do) is watching the sunset from up by the local airstrip.(there's a nice little restaurant and bar at the airport)
Hiking is an option as are guided jeep tours.

As far as riding, if you are going north out of the Phoenix area, take 87 to Payson, this is wide open high desert, then pick your route to Winslow, Flagstaff or wherever, it's all beautiful there.

While you're in the area, be sure to ride from Prescott to Flagstaff going through Jerome (a very nice old mining town/tourist stop on the side of the mountains). What an awesome contrast to see the mountainous forest and the dessert right next door.

Also check out the Petrified Forrest in the Painted Dessert. Last I'll suggest passing through the Salt River Canyon.

IMHO you are heading to the best area to ride in all of Az. As you are heading south out of Flagstaff take 89A south which goes thru Oak Creek canyon into Sedona. Go thru Sedona into west Sedona & head to Jerome(old mining town) & then head towards Prescott over Mingus mtn and across Fain valley into Prescott. Also stop at the Javalina Cantina restaurant in Sedona if you like great mexican food. Take along plenty of film! Ride safe!

I'm doing a ride that same week in the area. We fly from NYC to Vegas. Renting bikes from EagleRider and heading out to the Grand Canyon. The second leg of the trip will take us up into Utah to Zion National Park. Mapped out the ride is about 700 miles. Can't wait.
