Going in a few weeks. I was told to get there early or be prepared to idle.

Very pretty ride. Goes up to about 6600' and is bumper to bumper with tourists on most days. Start early and enjoy the views. There is very little in the way of guard rails so be careful.
They have had a few bad winters up there and the road is under repair in a few spots.
Lots of small bars in Whitefish if you are looking to stay for the night.
Very nice part of the country!!

Was there many moons ago...(35 years ago)... We were there the 1st week of June and it had snowed and we couldn't go up on the west side. We had to drive around to the east side and go up that way.. Very impressive..

The pass is open and the snow is about 6 feet deep at the top and the road cut thru it as of last week. The road is not in great shape but is is slow driving so no big deal. Actually pretty cool (no pun intended) riding with the snow so deep. It will melt fast in the 80-90 degree days. I ride it at least once a year. in peak season hit it early or late to avoid the crowds. They do not allow vehicles over 24' on it so that is good. There is some of the best riding on the South end of the park heading east. Also Waterton parks in Canada is very nice riding. You will not see better country.

Ditto the comment re bumper to bumper tourists. I rode through there 2 years ago, in August, and it was chilly. If you can find a way to ride through there without the traffic, it would be awesome.
Little town outside the east entrance... Browning, MT... is STRANGE! I felt like I'd entered a time warp. The town was predominantly Blackfeet Indians, very primitive looking, and they seemed to be preoccupied with their old automobiles. I've heard you don't want to park your bike in Browning overnite.

You are correct about Browning. Lots of crime. I would not stay there and don't even care to get gas there if I don't have to.

Awsome Pictures Y2K! I have many Pics of that Area too. I've Been there several times! My Favorite way to ride the park is to stay in the Hungry Horse area (West side of park) and make the trip over the Going to the Sun Hway and return the same day, I get to see it twice! believe me The views are very differant going both directions! I stay away from The Black-Foot reservation on the east side because its Very sage brush Dry and more then a little Ghetto like In Browning Mt. Not at all unlike the movie Thunder heart With whats his name? Val Kilmer? One Trip up there I shut my Motor off at the top of the park and coasted the 25 miles to the bottom, it was increadbly peacefull and a blast!
yet another time the Top was cloud covered, the ride was scary as hell & very dangerous! imagine this, very narrow winding road with 1,000 ft drops at your elbow and to few guard rails with very thick Fog! you can see from the bottom if the top is cloud covered, stay down if its cloud covered, you will risk your life and wont see a damn thing including your hand in front of you face anyway
