Proper riding attire ?'s
Just got my bike over the weekend. I've rode it a little but was wondering what the proper riding attire is. It was 95 degrees when I rode so I had on my helmet, shatter proof glasses, short sleeves, jeans, and my waterproof work boots.
Should I be wearing a jacket all the time?
Should I be wearing gloves and if so with or without fingers?
Should I buy "Riding" boots?
I know I need to buy some rain gear.
I appreciate the info

wear a good jacket, leather;
wear gloves- either choice but wear gloves (things like to hit your hands riding);
i wear work boots- BFD. to me, boots are boots;
i don't know about raingear, keeps a trash bag handy just in case.

I think the best answer is just use some common sense first of all, and do what you are comfortable with. A lot of questions will answer themselves. Do you really need to ask what to wear?
Personally I don't want to ride with shorts or open-toed shoes, too much heat, too close to the road/hot pipes kinda thing. I wear steel-toed boots but only because that's normal for me to wear, very comfortable and everything fits just fine, no problems working shifters or brakes. I don't have special ultra-super mamma-jamma mojo harley boots and I don't think you need them. Doc Martin's are a hell of a good boot and better than HD in my opinion. Mine lace up instead of zip up which I think fits better and looks a little better as well. Do get boots/shoes that won't get eaten up by the oil or grease in the road. Shirts are ok, I wear one if I must. The sun will give you a worse problem than anything. Gloves and jacket are for cold weather. Remember though, it's all about how safe do you want to feel versus how bulky do you want your clothes.

A word of advice. If you have a new helmet and want to protect it. everyone here knows this trick, stretch a fairly clean pair of jockey shorts over your helmet when you go out riding. They will keep it from getting scratched and bug splattered.
Glad to be of help. Ride safe!!!

As someone else pointed out elsewhere, never wear white gloves after Labor Day. It simply isn't done.

No need to amputate those fingers, my friend.
On a more serious note, dress for the crash, not for the ride.
But in the category of "Do what I say, not what I do" I have to admit that I don't choose to wear a full-face helmet, and if I did own one, wouldn't wear it in hot weather, because my face would be dripping sweat.
So I'm not entirely consistent either. Just make sure you wear what *YOU* choose to wear, that way you can only blame yourself if you need to.

Thanks alot guys. I sure am good at asking stupid questions aren't I. Just glad this one didn't get sent to the "Classic" section. Yet. I wanted to be comfortable for sure. My reason for asking was that this Road King is my first bike and I've only been able to ride it 40miles so far. The bike is so comfortable and handles so well I feel like I'm a veteran. I know that I'm not, so I wanted to take precautions. I just wasn't sure about a leather jacket in 90 degree weather.
Thanks again

I know everyone (most) recommends leathers at all times but I just can't do it. When it hits 80 I got the t-shirt and tenners and sometimes shorts. I know I'll be in a world of hurt if I fall over but I never intend to fall over. I do cover up if I'm on trips that take me on the highway or serious congestion but short jaunts around the country here I like to be comfortable.
But that's just me, and I'd never tell someone else what they SHOULD be wearing.
...... looking for jockey shorts for the helmet....define fairly clean!

No more than two shades of brown and yellow, any more would be tacky.
Example:
A man walks into a doctor's office for a routine exam.
The doctor tells him "I am going to need a sample of your stool, urine and semen.
The man says " Ok, Doc, but I'm really in a big hurry..how bout if I just leave you my shorts? :p

How safe is safe ???
True Story Coming Up
My neighbour who lives only 3 doors up rides a Kawasaki Vulcan. He always wears leathers, (Swears by them.)
Last year he stopped on his driveway and forgot his sidestand, (Brain Fart Moment.) In an attempt to stop his beloved machine from hitting the tarmac he slipped a disk and spent three weeks in traction.
My belief is your sale by date is written across your forehead. You cant see it,but when it arrives your numbers up. In the meantime enjoy your life and your bike no matter what you wear.
