You folks may know about this, but I just got sight of some statistics (yeah, we know about statistics-but) from your National Highway Safety, they are looking at driver distraction at the moment
http://www.dot.gov/new/index.htm, if I read it right, there were 5,780 fatalities in which driver distraction was cited on the report and 515,000 injuries in which dvr distraction was cited on the report.
So in the words of the ol serge on the Hill St Blues cop show-"be careful out there".
4yr info, if you are visiting the UK and europe and plan on driving around, causing a death by driving without due care and attention can get you five years in the jail.Texting, cellphone calls, eating, drinking, reading maps and driving one handed will get ya busted over here.
