Horny
Just wondering..................how many of you ride your horn switch in street traffic, or any other traffic for that matter (it could help).

There have been a few times I have covered the horn button when a nearby driver seemed oblivious, a couple times it has gotten their attention when I did blow the airhorn at them. When I do this I remind myself not to let the horn distract me from more important things. In really sketchy situations it seems there is no time to toot and it is doubtful it would help.
The BJ's Specialties airhorn instructions direct you to blow the horn at least once every ride to keep them limbered up. This helps the thumb to remember where the button is as well.

I use my horn so rarely, I couldn't find it quickly if I needed to.
I give the pipes a quick rev if I want to let a guy know I am next to him, but other than that I just try to stay out of everybodies way.

In a stressful situation it's easy to forget where the button is though it seems a fella can always remember where his middle finger is...

Horns on most bikes are worthless. I have found that the HD horns are a little louder than most, but theyre still worthless. I just act like everyone wants to kill me, that seems to work best. Last thing I need is some soccer mom getting pissed off at me because I honked at her. Her gay-ass Dodge Caravan is going to win over my bike everytime.

I am in the habit of covering my horn switch when in city traffic. I use the Stebel Nautilus air horn and it has saved my butt on several occasions.
I too make sure to blow mine on every ride to keep it limbered up and to make sure it is working before I need it.
My thumb has more trouble remembering where the high beam switch is than the horn switch.

I've tried to use my horn a couple of times when someone has or is trying to make a left turn in front of me. Every time I've only been successful in turning on my LEFT BLINKER which is exactly what I do not want to do. This just makes them think I am turning left too and they continue with their traffic maneuver.
I'm trying hard to remember that the thumb position needs to be higher if I want to operate the horn and not the blinker.
Maybe I should just practice driving around town and honk at every cage driver that is not paying attention to their driving. If I did that though I might as well wire the horn so it is blaring every time I'm in traffic!

I just installed a Mini-Beast horn....a Stebel Nautilus in a nice chrome cover. Outstanding! Seriously loud and looks decent.

If my horn doesn't get their attention, (if their too close) my boot usually does!

LEOs have it right
My '05 RK Police has the stock controls and the horn button is actually elongated to make it easier to find in a hurry. Not finding the horn right away when it is really needed would suck!

I have only had my bike for about 9 months. I never gave the horn much thought. I tend to do the same as "Faast Ed" and use the pipes. I have tested my horn a few times and the pipes are louder. I bumped my horn a few weeks ago to get a buddies attention before leaving a parking lot and it only made a gargling noise like it was under water. There had been no rain and my bike is garage kept so I'm sure it's not wet. I was told that the HD horns have an adjustment somewhere. Anybody know about this?

I have never heard of an adjustment on a HD horn Skid. It sounds more like a grounding issue or a loose connection to me.....

I didn't think so. I looked all over it and there is just not that much to it. I haven't made a real effort to try and fix it. The weather has been too good lately to waist time on a horn I don't use anyway.

Actually, I took mine out cause I moved my coil to the former horn location.
Now, I plan to use the horn button for a nitrous switch!!
