Part of the white helmet thread brought this up: http://www.v-twinforum.com/forums/sh...=1#post1152148

What do you all think?

They sure help keep it off the ground in parking lot drops.

That would be two low speed drops....one an off-camber parking lot, the other a 4" deep low-water crossing with slime on concrete for a surface....slicker than K-Y on ice. The bars saved any damage both times.

having a cage whip out of parking lot making a left.....with no where to go and avoid...i locked up both front and back...i guess a little too much rear as she spun around and i am heading toward this guys front fender sideways....KER-BLAM.....hit his right side with the left side of my road king...somehow didn't bounce off....but those engine guards/crash gaurds (whatever you wish to call them)...sure enough saved my leg....and made real mess of this benz...i walked away..

and naturally a few parking lot drops saved me from shelling out for damage..

although i have read that foot rests attached to the outside of your crash bars when the bike is sliding down the road can grab, thus sending that bike flipping or spinning as opposed to sliding down the road.....hopefully you are clear of it if that happens..

The one I crashed 11 years ago had the footpeg mounts welded on not like today where they fold up. It went down in dirt and dug a little before bending back.

Another save

One of my riding partners reminded me that they had a kickstand fold while fueling their Dyna. The bars kept it somewhat off the ground.

The guard/bars are excellent for protection one's legs, the bikes painted parts, etc. etc. etc. An Ultra can fall over with absolutely no damage at all except a scratch on the lower corner of the engine bars. They seem to be pretty effective, even at over 5mph. If you're going to improve handling skills with the more extreme pattern practice (keyhole, intersection, etc.) then I whole-heartedly recommend them. With 'em, dropping is not an issue (except to one's ego).

Big beliver

I just bought an Electra Glide Standard that had been stripped down to look like a Street Glide.
As soon as I got the bike I but back all of the crash bars, Front and Rear.

The next day while turning left thru an intersection at about 25 mph I hit a huge oil patch that sent be sliding down the road.
Zero damage to me or the bike largely due to the bars. Mankle would have been pinned under the bike w/o the bars.

Big Fan!!!!!
