Class pictures

Hey folks,

For those of you were interested, I just wanted to let you know how the Ride Like a Pro West Coast classes are going.

Instead of going on about the exercises and how things went, I thought I’d let the pictures speak for themselves. Pay particular attention to the eyes and head turns, and how much the riders are leaning the bikes. Remember, this is only after a few hours into the class. With more practice they will be turning tighter and leaning over further. Probably the hardest part was getting folks to break old unsafe riding habits. I told the riders that the course is very challenging, and to remove or cover anything they wanted to protect.

I apologize if some of the pictures are fuzzy. My “assistants” did their best with the camera. Then my wife came and took them to Water Polo practice.

Great Pics Paniolo. Only complaint is that I want a Tour Glide but you cannot buy one in OZ.

But seriously the pics epitomize the riders head angle, where they are looking and the rider and bike working as "one", confidently. Of note, too, is the women riders. Love to see the ladies "showing their stuff" , for sure!!

Nice work and pass on thanks to the water polo team for getting a few pics that are not too jerky.

Great work!!!

Cheers

That was some good thinking to put covering over the crash guards. Did the instructors sugest that?

I sure did. Enforcement style riding is more aggresive than social and recreational riding, so the chance of dropping a bike is greater. But it does give the rider much better control at low speed turns and handling the bike at slow speed.

Yup, I guess those fairing corners can get scraped up pretty easy.

Fantastic pictures! I don't know how you get beginners to keep their heads and eyes up like that. Your students look very professional.

We have practice every Wednesday evening, weather permitting, in Plano, Texas; following Harris' Motorcycle Instruction Guide. We welcome riders that want to improve their skills; if anyone is interested. 7 PM at Custer and Plano Parkway (big parking lot in the S.E. Quadrant). Ed has been helping riders gain experience and skills for about 7 years. I've been at it for almost 3 years and am one of his instructors. We set up exercises without about 100 cones and give instruction.

Ken,

That is the hardest part. Each exercise builds on the next, allowing the riders to to see how the whole picture comes together. I spend a lot of time telling them to "turn head, eyes up", "chin on shoulder", "feet up" and "stay on that rear brake". They all struggle with looking away, and losing the turn. Most of what I do is correct years of poor motorcycling habits.

After I get a few more sessions in, I plan to "open" the range to anyone who has completed the class. They can come one hour before a scheduled session, and practice on their own.

Thank you for your compliments.

Mark
