Keeping the engine BLACK
After several thousand miles and too many cleanings to number, I am finding it hard to get the engine to look new anymore. I have always kept my bike clean. But the black on the engine cases looks kind of grey now. I do not use solvents or degreaser on my bike. What is the best product to renew the color on the engine? Krylon is not an option! It seems like I have heard or seen a product from S-100 before, but I can't seem to locate any info on it.
Thanks-Rob

S 100
That be the stuff, works great. Had a few spots were you get wax and such trying to polish other stuff. Tried WD-40 and others with no luck at all. Finally sprung for the S 100. It comes with a metered spray tube. Just apply to a kewl motor and it looks great. Like it was new. Just dont over apply. I have washed my bike many times after application and still looks good. A product I will stick with.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I didn't know that S-100 would 'renew' the black powder coat on the engine. I have an 04 black RKC and was wondering how about this. While at a HD dealer in AL, a parts salesman (where they sold S-100) told me to be careful using S-100 - said to be sure to really rinse it off after use. I have no personal experience - but does anyone know about this?

S 100
S 100, comes in a variety of applications. It sounds to me the one the stealer was talking about was the bike cleaner. There is also a number of other prodects put out by S100. The engine brightner is the one to use for engine black.

I have been using S100 Engine Brightener since it came out 5 or 6 years ago on a 1982 FXRS and also my 03 Ultra. It works great at keeping that grey away and on my shovel it even keeps the black paint shining. It doesn't shine on my 03( not shiny paint to begin with), but does keep it dark black. The metering nozzle is easy to direct it where want it. If you do get some overspray on the chrome, just wipe it off with a dry rag. I love it.
The S100 wash is what you must rinse off completely or it will leave white spots on you paint and chrome. Also don't put it on a hot bike. Let it cool completely before washing with S100.

Pig Spit works great for the black textured paint. My friend just did his and it came out looking better than new (wet black look).

I will have to give S-100 another vote. I have a Night Train, I use it once a month or so and the bike looks NEW! Love it! Two thumbs up.........

I don't know where to find it on the net. My local dealer always keeps it in stock. I'm sure someone will chime in and let you know where to find it on line.........

We talkin black wrinkle?
If the paint is too far gone the Eastwood Co (and probably some paint stores and HD dealers) sell black wrinkle paint in a rattle can. I use it by spraying some in the plastic cap and brushing it on with a squirrel hair brush, I suppose any soft bursh would work. I have also used silicone spray with some success, it makes it look wet and shiny. I discovered this totally by accicent treating my clutch and brake cables and accidently got some on the engine. Cheap and works. AL
