cleaners and blueing

Heard that some products if they contain an oil will cause blueing if used on the pipes. Anyone know if there is truth to that?
I use blue magic to get the scuff marks off. takes a little time, but open for the suggestions i've read here about other products.

Ah, 2nd post, Welcome to the board.

Fatboy, if you do a search you'll get numerous suggestions/remarks about exhaust/bluing and such on the board.

I've never heard anything about polishes/products containing oils or such that cause bluing. I have suggested several times on this board to start your bike. Hold you hand on the muffler until you have to pull it off and turn the bike off. Then apply a good chrome polish to the exhaust while it is hot...this allows the polish to penetrate the pours of the metal.

Oil on chrome can cause bluing. That's why you have to wipe down a new set of pipes with a cleaner before you start the bike the first time with them on. If you don't, you will get nice blue fingerprints burned forever into your pipes. (Ask me how I know). After the pipes are "seasoned" oil getting on them seems to be no longer a problem.
