How to clean a screamin eagle filter

I just bought a 01 Eglide with what looks like a screamin eagle AC. How do you clean it? It looks like paper. Any help would be appreciated.

Starfire,
What I have done is dilute some Simple Green in a spray bottle. Spray it on, let it sit for 15 to 20 minutes. Rinse really good, then air dry. Remember before spraying the Simple Green on to blow out the "stuff" from the inside out first!

first you catch it,wait for it to scream, then you wring its neck, next pluck it and lastly replace it with a K&N.

mitssac, Thanks, I can definitely handle that. I wasn't sure if you could get them soaking wet or not.

starfire, you have to watch it, the SE filter was washable/ oilable, then paper, then washable but not oilable. since you dont kow its history, that is why i suggested the KN replacement.

You're right, I will get a K&N shortly. Where is the cheapest place to get one? I am pretty sure this paper filter is one I can blow and wash for now. Thanks for the input.

The problem with being pretty sure verse positive is possible wet paper being sucked up your intake. If its the paper type meant to be replaced when it becomes really bad and then you soak it with oil base or water products it could break it down when you least want it to break down. Like when your going full throttle heading towards 5th gear.
Since you plan on changing it out with a K&N, I would shake and tap it up against the table a few times, reuse it until you get your K&N. If your bike is running good then you are probably are ok with it as is. Why take the chance of maybe breaking it down under use when you plan on changeing in out with a better made filter. Just a thought.

There's a thread around here about washing a paper filter & then bike wouldn't run right..Seemed to cause not enough inhaling ability, & ended up having intake seal leaks...Gotta get air from somewhere.

I'd never wash paper..

K&N, ebay might get lucky..& save a few pennies..

I wouldn't chance it and just buy an Eagle replacement AC or the K/N.

I think they are washable but I didn't get any instructions after it was installed. I'll have to check into it. Of course it's not dirty yet and shouldn't need to be replaced for many more miles.

My SE air cleaner is washable for my 08. I washed it with dish soap and warm water then rinsed it out, then used KN cleaner and rinsed again, then let air dry. The KN cleaner did get more dirt out of it. No oil!
