Angry Cloudy Composite Headlight Lens, Cleaning?

The headlight on my 2007 FLSTF has gone cloudy. I am not sure if it is caused by using Maguires quick detail to take off the bugs between cleanings. The only other thing I have used was S-100 no touch wash and only once. Any ideas on getting it clear again? I might try to get a new one under warranty. Anyone else have this problem?

Novus Plastic Polish No. 1

Try some Novus plastic polish.
They sell it at HD dealers.
I use it to clean my RoadGlide lens and the face shield on the helmet.
Works great!

I have the same problem with my H-D bullet headlight, I thing it has something to do with the bulb/heat. Mine is definatly inside. Mequires is a super product, and would never cause damage on anything. I use it on everything from my car, jeep, and my bike.

You were right! It was on the inside caused from the headlight connector overheating. I rinsed it with cold water and blew the water out with compressed air. Like new!

For stubborn inside clouding, I've used hot water w/a touch of dish soap & agitate. Then rinse out w/clean water & dry fully...

A little bit of rubbing alcohol on a cloth also cleans the inside of the housing very good.

I tried that the first time and it clouded back up quickly. Must leave a residue. The second time I used dish soap, a piece of rag, a thin plastic rod, and rubbed it all around in there. Then rinsed very good w/clear water. Dried it with pressurized nitrogen. It has not clouded up again. I think the nitrogen helped allot.

thank you! Thank You!! THANK YOU!!!

I have a 2007 FXSTC and the head lamp had gotten very cloudy. I was just at the dealership earlier today in search of a fix.

A new lamp was going to run me $75 - $100 depending on whether I went with Kuryakyn or HD with no guaranty the problem wouldn't resurface. I just couldn't pull the trigger.

I came across this thread about 1 hour ago.

Out to the garage...........pulled the lamp and removed the bulb. I filled the lamp with warm water and a little dish soap, aggitated well and rinsed thoroughly. I used a hair dryer to dry the inside of the lamp and reassembled.

I gotta tell you, it looks as clear and bright as the day it rolled out of the showroom!!!!

a HUGE THANKS to all of you!!!

If you're ever unfortunate enough to find yourself headed to or through Fayetteville, NC. let me know....I'm buying the beer!!!

Talking

huskerbob-

Always cool to save dough, & have a new quick fix..

Wonder how many new headlights HD has sold, instead of telling customers this simple fix ???

Course 'no money' in telling 'free fixes' to people..

On the other hand if my local stealership did tell a free fix to me, I would respect that, & likely be back for parts & such, as needed...

Now, how do I brighten up my headlight bulb shroud that appears pitted with rust?

I asked this question a few months ago, 88 views and not a single reply...

The two spots on my 09 are cloudy right at the top. Going to give it a try.
