good wax

I'm not one to make my machine sparkle but I have it in the cellar for the winter and have been playing with it.

My tank paint has the usual surface scratches from jacket sleeves and fuel fill ups and general wiping the crud and water off.Nothing deep or ugly just in the clear coat.I am trying to find a good wax that might polish the small scratches out.

I also have an angle grinder that I can put a polishing wheel onto but I am concerned with heat,is that an issue?

While I have your attention...I really suck at trying to touch up chipped paint. Is there a good info area to gain a little insight on this.

We still have still have snow over the top of my archery deer target so I have a bit of time to practice. Thanks, Ron

If you have to have a power buffer, you want one that has a very slow rpm. An angle grinder with a pad on it will burn the paint very quickly. the buffer from walmart or the black & decker is good for a car or truck body, but it is too much for a bike. There is a buffer for wheels that goes on a drill moter that works pretty well.

When you buff or polish your paint, you have to be very careful. Polishing compound takes off the top layer of paint, that is what is oxidized, but continued use will burn completely through. If you are getting to the paint color on a stock hd, you have gone too far. HD s have a couple of coats of clear on them. If you catch it at the right time, a painter may be able to bring it back with a couple of coats of clear. other than that, make sure that you have plenty of wax on the paint.
