header pipe cleaning

I dropped a microfiber cloth yesterday on my right Road King footboard shortly after getting back from a ride. Well needless to say it burnt on that exposed part of the head pipe that is uncovered without a heat shield. I have read lots of stuff about getting junk off of the heat shield but what about the actual head pipe itself. Same method I am guessing? Thanks.

you may be surprised. last time i let a microfibre hit a pipe, once it cooled, i popped it right off with the edge of a box cutter.
