Wire Wheel Cleaners

I bought some spray cleaner (Eagle 1 Chrome & Wire Cleaner) and was getting ready to clean up my spoke wheels. Reading the instructions there is a caution not to use on motorcycles. I went back up to the parts store and just about every brand has the same warning...what makes motorcycle wheels so much different?

I believe it is the coating on the spokes that prevents rust. Go buy a bottle of simple green... cut it with water 50/50, then spray it on your spokes and rinse. You can use a soft brush if you have a lot of dirt built up. Stuff leaves them looking like new.

Just guessing here,...but I suspect that it might leave a little bit of slippery residue on the rubber and they don't want to get a lawsuit from folks that race out of their sudsy driveway and fall down. Seems to me a few miles of careful riding will clean the rubber.
