06 Horn Issue
I have an 06 Ultra and the horn fails at least a third of the time. It has a muffled sound. My dealer told me yesterday that Harley has been getting a lot of complaints but has issued a service bulletin to the dealers not to replace them.
Anyone have a copy of this bulleting? I am going to be calling Harley today, but plan on sending NITSA an email.
Sounds petty, but a few weeks ago while sitting still I had a car coming right at me and when I hit the horn it didn't work right. The car just missed me, so I was lucky.

My 02 has been like that since I got it. Second horn isn't really any better. All the dealer said was that they'd been selling a lot of replacement horns.
Sorry I'm no help, just saying that there's at least one other of us out here.

I had the same problem with mine and it was a grounding issue. They cleaned the ground and the problem went away.

From the other horn thread.

Horn Issues
Recently we have seen a high number of horn warrenties.
Upon inspection of the returned horns there was no trouble found on many of them.
Here are some tips on diagnosing possible horn issues:
1. Horn volume is a variable and will be different between two motorcycles. Perceived low horn tone is not warrantable.
2. Water in the horn could also cause a low horn tone. It would be suggested to let the horn dry and re-verify function.
3. Verify wire routings, connections, proper ground, and voltage.
4. Check for binding horn mounts.
5. Proper torque on the horn fastener is also critical and should be verified.

Thank you. That makes sense to me based on what my horn's been like. I'll check that.

Thanks.....The low tone is about 10% of the normal and doesn't sound like a horn at all. You can not hear it from 10feet away. if you press the button it may work after 3 or presses. Then a while later not work again. Or it may work for 20 times before it fails again. Temp and humidty do not seem to matter.
All the connections were checked etc. No water.
I called the Harley Customer Service this morning and they said they would get back to me.
I also was told that they changed manufacturers recently.

Hi.
Both the boss and I have '06 E-glides and we have had no issues to this point with our horns, but thank you for the info, we shall keep and eye(And ear) on them.

Same here guys. Between me and my dad, tried 3 different horns. None worked for long. Checked all wiring and grounds and all were good. One day got pissed and took it of. Then i look at the old one i had laying around and saw a black plug on top of it with silcone on it. So i scraped off silicon and backed out the adjuster screw about 1.25-1.5 turns and bam it worked. Been 6-8 months now and both bikes still work. This will probably void the warranty and it also changes the pitch a little, but worked for me......

dealer replaced it
Had the same issue on '05 Ultra. Sounded like a dying duck underwater, if any sound came out of it at all. Took into a dealer and showed it to 'em about 2 months ago, and they replaced it free.

Anybody tried or have experience with the Stebel Magnum 12V replacement horn for Harleys? It is supposed to bolt into place the same way the stock horn does. This is NOT the compressor model, they claim 129 DB from this horn. I ordered one and can give better info once it is installed.

guys, I went to pepboys and they had 4 different Fiam horns in stock, the manager let me take them out and try them till I selected one. It fits in the cowbell (crome cover) just like the original one, is quite a bit louder and was only like $21. FYI

Man get that cheap stebel horn that 8ball shows on his site. I did and thing is loud and don't have to look at no stinking cowbell. Follow the link in 8balls sig to his site for more info. Then you too could adorn your ride with something like this or another item of your choice:
