Cold start and driveability probs. on '06 TC 88's

Looks like they are gonna change out the injectors on the bikes that are running poorly on initial cold starts. See it here:
http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/hhlair1/M1185.pdf

All you '06 owners should have a hard copy of this bulletin when you go in for this issue. The MoCo is in the process of dis-abling ALL linked pathways to their 'For MoCo Eys Only' service bulletins. Save a copy to your hard drive so you can inform others about it.

Our Bob was built in Dec. and shipped Dec 23rd-05. It has the new 5 hole 25 degree injectors. The reason I checked was I was thinking maybe I had the old ones by the way it starts. If I don't hold the start button down for a moment after it catches it will kick-back quite sharply and die, not good for the starter! Other than that, it's sweet and motors like a raped ape, glitch free at all speeds even with the Screamin Eagle IIs installed.

is there a simple way to tell which i have. My ride is a 06 RK Classic. when it first starts and i take off, it feels like the fuel injector stops for a second. Bike slows and then takes off. Once warm it doesn't happen....OK once in awhile when shifiting gears.

KKRIDER,
Did you find the injector & part # yourself or the dealer tell you? I have a 2006 Ultra & cannot find any numbers. I probably do not know what I'm looking for. I have looked on left & right side. Any help would be appreciated.
thanks.

I finally have been able to find the part # on the injectors. It is not on the side of the injector, but more towards the front/top of the injector. I took the horn off, got on the garage floor & twisted around enough to see it printed upside down on the injector.
The bike was manufactured in Jan 2006 & has the old style 8* injectors. So, according to the service bulletin this hopefully explains why it takes several times to start & does not run real smoothly at times.
I have already had the 95" big bore mod, SE A/C, V&H exhaust & V&H oval mufflers. Hopefully the dealership will install the 25* injectors.

Sorry for the mis-information. I saw N295A on the front injector looking in from the left with a mag light. It stands out quite clear, but very small letters... white on black. I didn't need to remove anything to see it. Looking again, 27625-06 is visible on the rear injector as well as the N295A model#. It was the model# that threw me because it's different than N104A listed in the bulletin? So now I need to price the new injectors, but for now anyway the bike is performing flawlessly.

Dealing with the replacement of the fuel injectors to the CVO type to cure lean problems.

The 05 and earlier injectors had higher flow rates than the 06 stock injectors.
06 are 3.91 grams per second flow rated.
05 and earlier are 4.35.
The 25 degree injectors are rated at 4.89 gm/s.

Or expressed in Lbs. per hour
`06 8° ---- 31.0 lb/hr
`05 ------- 34.5 lb/hr
CVO 25° -- 38.8 lb/hr

A 31/lb per hour flow rate should easily support even a 95 inch motor with out break'n a sweat. 23/lb per hour injectors in a car will support 350 + HP. That is almost 44 HP per cyl. What PSI is the flow rates given at?

anybody have any idea how much it would cost to get the old style replaced with the new ones?since the "conditions"have to be just right for them to replace them under warranty,i may just pay to have this done.

Thumbs up Had my injector changed and all seems better

I had the cold running problem..intermittent coughing a sputtering and occasional stalling... They changed out my injectors today and hooked up my race tuner to remap the injectors since I had had a stage one done with slip ons. I have the screamin eagle non catylist mufflers. Bike seems to run much better at low speeds but the proof will be on the cold starts. An intersting side note...I pick up my 2006 king classic in Sept of 2005 and assumed that I would be getting a catylist muffler on one side. I must have gotten lucky and had and 06 that beat the cuttoff. Neither muffler is identified as "catylist equipped" Have seem some of the newer ones and the ones with the catylist in them are clearly identifiy right on the muffler. Dealer says they have been changing out quite a few of these injectors and that had a 100% sucess rate in solving the cold running problems. Looks like they went too lean.

I have been watching this thread, as I have an 06 Fatboy getting ready to go in for its 1000 mile service ( included with purchase)

Today while riding, it popped ( like an old carb bike) twice while I was going around a corner, lost power and I almost fell over.. Did not like this at all.

Weather locally was in the high 70's ( warmest since I purchased the bike) and it was fully warmed up..

Filled up after the first pop ( thinking I might be low in fuel) but it did it again.. Both times I was leaned over going slowly through a turn and when I throttled up, NO POWER for a second..

The rear exhaust pipe where it comes out of the rear cylinder has really turned blue ( reflecting off the oil tank) so its getting hot and lean.

Question is " Do I need the updated injectors?"...

If the flow rate for the 8 Degree injectors is 3.91 grams per second and the 25 degree injectors are 4.89 grams per second. How come the Stage 1 SERT calibration files for both the 8's and the 25's list both injectors as 3.91 grams per second? Should this be changed if the bike came with the 25's? Also the Harley Dyno Tuner used the 8 degree calibration file as a base during dyno tuning on my bike instead of the 25. Will that effect anything?

All of the members who are having injector problems had better run-off a copy of this 'Tech Bulletin'. The MoCo has forced Harleyhog to take all this information off of his site. More than likely, the folks at the 'stealer' you will take it to, will say they have nothing on this 'service bulletin' and will be real inquisitive where you acquired it and why you have it. I just got this treatment from my 'stealer' when showing them the 'Tech Bulletin' concerning the cheap ass backrests the MoCo sells........It's only a question of time until this disappears also.............Seems all the 'Parts Managers' and 'Service Managers' have been told to 'play dumb' concerning anything that involves information that we, the buying public, aren't supposed to have in our possesion........They are only liable for informing you of an 'official recall' not 'Tech' or 'Service' Bulletins............I ran off copies of all literature that applies to my two bikes before the MoCo made HarleyHog remove the stuff..........I had to have the copy of the 'Tech Bulletin' concerning the backrests in my hand and show it to the 'Service Manager' before he would do anything. He even called the MoCo and asked them to search and got "I don't have anything on that particular 'Tech Bulletin'. The 'Service' manager told her that the customer had one in his hand. She wanted to know how and where I had acquired it............
