Massive 2009-2010 Harley recall

Harley announced yesterday they are recalling over 111,000 2009-2010 Touring family motorcycles including cvo and trike products. The recall involves the front gas tank mounts. Dealers will have add a brace to strengthen the mounts which are said to possibly distort and cause a fuel leak in a frontal crash leading to fire and possible serious injury. Looks like numerous models are affected.

Dealer called this afternoon and said that the parts came in today and that my new Street Glide has had the modification and will be read for pickup this coming Wed went all of the other Acc are installed. Will take a picture of the mod when I get the bike and pass it on if someone else doesn't. The dealer says that they are getting .3 hrs for install. He said it was very easy and you can't even see it. I will have to make that judgment. He says it appears to be plastic. We will see.

fuel tank recall done on my 2010 Glide

had the fuel tank recall on my 2010 Glide.....it is a plastic reinforcement piece that goes between the frame and the tank's bolt that holds tank to frame. Reinforcement plastic is not noticeable and it also has a rubber cover...no big deal

I work at a dealer and they dont change the lift of the tank any at all.It is just basically a hard plastec pice that goes behind the front fuel tank mounting hole and bolt againts the frame and also a rubber cover that goes on the tank tabs.It just helps in the absortion if distoron would occur. They are doing wave shipments of these parts meaning that each dealer gets a certain prectange of whats affected they sold.Every dealrer vaires based on sales. Some may get 6.We got 20.

My bike was already at the Dealers when I received notification. They advised they will just keep it until the part comes in. They have no ETA at all, but are thinking late January. Kindda hard to ride with all the snow on the ground anway. Almost looks like I may get "free" winter storage" out of this recall........

Kinda surprised the dealer called me to bring it in and ask if I'd got the letter.

Had mine done a couple of weeks ago. They do not have to remove the tank to do the repair. Loosen the rear tank bolt, remove the fronts, sightly raise the front of the tank and slip in the reinforcing piece. Re-tighten bolts - done. Took about 10 minutes. It took the dealer longer to do the paper work than the repair.

had the recall on my 09 streetglide. It's 2 plastic filler blocks that go between the gas tank mounting tabs and the frame . Took me about 15 min. to install.
