Just got MoCo Fuel Filter Shell Recall
I just received in the mail today the MoCo Recall for the Fuel Filter Shell for the loss of Fuel Pressure! Letter also states that recall kits will be shipping to the dealers starting August 4, 2008. Also anyone who has paid for the repair will be reimbursed.
The number on the back of the letter is "0135".
Here are the scanned pages of the recall letter. I had to convert them to a PDF so they would upload. Hope they work.
ltr, rkk

2008 fuel shell recall
Replaced my fuel shell myself with the new one the other night. Did not see any difference between the two, and the old one still looked just fine with no cracking or distortion. The MoCo is balking at reimbursement to me of the $34.00 I paid for the new part. They want the dealer to perform the repair. So, I could be forced into letting the dealer work on the bike for no good reason.

Why forced? If its good, just let it be. If it breaks again, you know the dealer has to do the repair. Sounds like the best of both worlds to me (except for the $34, but that beats sitting on the side of the road).

hmmmm, pay $34 now or stay at a sleezbag motel in armpit while the rest of the group rides on cause they only have a week or so on the road. No brainer to me. Now if I could only get one of those damn things - had one on order at Chicago Harley for over a month now.

Good point, just found out my present shell that came from the factory was already the new style so I had a nice learning experience with the replacement process. My bike was built 10/07. Some folks out there may not even need the repair but until you pull the shell its difficult to know.

Last week, on August 8, I was on the homebound leg of a 4,700 mile cross country trip from my home in Michigan when the fuel filter shell failed on my 2008 Ultra in a remote area of Saskatchewan, Canada. Total loss of fuel pressure and power. A fellow biker and local resident was able to load my bike into his pick-up and drive me two hours to the closest dealer, Yorkton Harley Davidson, in Yorkton, SK. This is a huge problem. And, it looks to me like HD has known about it since December 2007 when they changed the design on the filter shell. Yet, they waited until now to announce the recall. The tabs on the replacement don't look much different than the original part so I have no idea how long this one will last. Even if yours looks good, replace it!!! By the way, Rick Dawson, the owner of Yorkton HD was phenomenal! He worked the phones for hours convincing HD to ship him the part even before they said they were available, found me a hotel room and had me back on the road within 30 minutes after he received the part the next day. If you're even in Yorkton, SK, stop in and tell Rick thanks for all of us.

1.See Figure 1. Remove dash housing/center console. See FUEL TANK TOP PLATE in the Touring Models Service
Manual.
2.Inspect decal with part number and date code on fuel tank top plate.
●If part number (1) is 75069-08A or 75076-08A, then install dash housing/center console. No replacement is required.
●If part number (1) is 75069-08 or 75076-08 with a date code (2) of 267 7 (267th day of 2007) or later, then install dash housing/center console. No replacement is required.
●If the part number is 75069-08 or 75076-08 and has a date code earlier than 267 7, continue disassembly
to replace the fuel filter shell using the new filter shell and o-ring provided in the kit.

Dumb question - does this affect the 2007 models? ALL I have ever heard is about the 08 models
