Battery cable recall...expect your letter..

I brought my 2007 heritage (Purchased Sept 2006) in for the 1000 mile checkup and for the remap recall and while I was standing there...They opened a letter for the newest recall and my name/bike was on it. Replaced a battery cable for $75...recall was so new that it wasn't in the system yet...so I got to pay for it to boot....Said they would credit me....Nazman

Recall 0130- Recall P/N 94547

Well lets see here.... I work at a HD dealership here in Iowa and the recall is invloved with any 2007 Softail models built up to the last couple of months's.... Harley has sent out 7000 next day air savers to dealers accross the country for first wave shipments.... This is the best and easyiest way to get ahold of it right now!!!! Soon Harley will start being back up with faxes, shipment's and also claims so your bike will be sitting for about a month if you dont get it in SOON!!!!

Now to the part- The part is not a cable it is a new battery tray holder/plastic piece that hold's it better then how it is stock.

Claps for ME!!!! (For all the info)

Now lets see here you better take it back to them and tell them they insatlled the wrong part....

P/N 94547 (Recall 0130)

Plus No HD dealer will make you pay for insatll/ or part on a recall it is ILLEGAL as long as It has been repaired within the open amount of years for that recall....

Brett,

You are right...sorry about post. When the service tech went over bill he stated that the one recall was billed with a (w) for warrenty and the other was so new that it was billed (R) to close out the work order. When I asked if HD was paying for it he said he would correct it...but I did the math and was NOT CHARGED for the service.....also he did say it was a cable....ref m-1207

Sorry about confusion..Nazman

I came across this thread this morning, and my recall notice was in my mailbox this afternoon.
"Harley-Davidson Motor Company, Inc. has decided that a defect relating to motor vehicle safety exists on certain 2007 Softail models (FXST, FXSTB, FXSTC, FXSTD, FXSTSSE, FLSTC, FLSTF, FLSTN, FLSTSC, FLSTSC Shrine, and FLSTF Shrine) vehicles built from June 8, 2006 through March 14, 2007. These motorcycles were built with a condition that permits the positive battery cable to contact a weld bead on the oil tank. This may cause the weld bead to abrade through the insulation on the cable and cause an electrical short from the battery through the oil tank and oil lines. This could lead to an oil leak and/or possible fire, which could result in injury or death to the rider."

. . .

"Please contact your Harley-Davidson motorcycle dealer immediately and arrange an appointment to have a battery caddy installed that will protect the cable and ensure proper cable routing. Actual dealer labor time to perform this service will be less than one hour; however, due to scheduling, the dealer may require your motorcycle for a longer period of time. The parts and labor will be free of charge to you. Recall kits will be available at your dealership beginning the week of May 7, 2007."

From the H-D Website . . .

We strongly urge you to take your motorcycle to your dealer to have the appropriate service performed as soon as possible. Should you choose to ride your motorcycle prior to this service, we urge you to be aware of this condition. Please see your local Harley-Davidson dealer for further details.
