In Memory of
David "Davo" Jones
Queensland, Australia
1956 - 2009
While most here dont have any idea who davo is.
I thought I would post up as a remembrance of him.
I only knew Davo through Internet forums. the same as many here. One I have never met but feel as if we were friends somehow!
Davo shipped his bike here to compete in the 09 Iron butt rally.
This was a life long dream for him. Davo helped found Farriders a Aussie LD riding organisation much like the IBA. Davo has accomplished many riding feats to lengthy to go into here. Just as a example he rode a 50 cc upon arrival to the states (coast to coast in less than 50 hrs.) Then started his ride in the 09 IBA rally. Davo hit a deer 80 miles from completing the Rally and later passed away as a result of his injuries.
Davo was a very Jubal upbeat like able person always willing to help a fellow rider in any way he could. I had conversed with him via the Internet numerous times mostly about GPS tips and tricks. We also were waiting for IBA certificates at the same time...A time when the IBA was backed up on completing ride certificates. He always joked about this and never got discouraged over the wait.
There is some kind of controversy over whether he was wearing his helmet at the time of his accident. This is very hard for me to understand because he was a ATGATT guy. His helmet was reported to be strapped to his bike. I can only speculate but I think maybe he was using two helmets during the rally. Seeing he was only 80 miles from the finish, and not wearing a helmet is grounds for disqualification I cant see any way he wouldn't be wearing one. I was waiting for a definite conclusion on this before posting. But maybe we will never know.
Many have said he died doing what he loved. I just have a hard time swallowing this thought as I sit and contemplate his passing.
some of Davo's quotes

we are all destined to die, some choose to live while alive" :: davo ::

SO LONG DAVO RIP
If there are bikes in heaven I know you have one set up for LD riding already!
