Allman / Oakley Gravesites

Just wondering how many of 'yall have visited Duane Allman and Berry Oakley's graves down in Macon? I stopped by there when my band was in town back in the 70's, and the thread about what you sing when you ride just had me thinkin' 'bout it...

Went there 11 years ago. Since then, a group of fans has taken over maintaining the graves as they were vandalized several times. Oakley's sister and husband still live there and they would freak out on anyone they saw too close to the graves. There is a fence around them now. As long as you stay outside the fence, they will not bother you.

Don't forget to walk around the rest of the cemetery, It's cool as hell. You can find the place where they took the photo on back of their second record and down by the river is the grave of Elisabeth Reed.

Nice pics, Jack. Lord, I do miss the days when talent meant more than marketing, and bands played for the fun of it.

Does anyonse have details on Duane's harley.

What kind was it. The set up. Any motor work

or rake on the forks, pipes etc.

Just interested in how the bike might have been modified.

Thanks

According to one source it was chopped, therefore the handling wasn't as good as it could have been. He left a 90 foot skid mark. I haven't found any mention about engine mods.

I read a Allman Bros. Band biology that said he was actully awake and laughing in the ambulance. I've lost the book so that's all I can remember off the top of my head.

Just an aside; There are some good pics posted here. Does anyone have one of Berry Oakley's stone? It has a very cool Fender Precision bass carved in it.
