Holger Thony - Motorcyle Safety Instructor
Sept. 9, 2000 -
Fort Lauderdale,FL, Holger Thony, owner of Motorcycle Safety of Florida, died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident with an SUV. He was struck from behind by a Toyota 4Runner which was travelling about 45 mph., Thony was knocked clear while his motorcycle wedged itself under the SUV's front wheels.
The 4Runner skidded for 100 yards until the motorcycle's fuel tank ruptured and ignited, engulfing both the bike and truck in flames. The truck's occupants escaped from the vehicle without injury.
.................................................. .................................................. ......................
Thony taught motorcycle safety courses for beginners and experienced riders for 15 years. I took his advanced course a few years ago and he was a dedicated professional and had a rare true love for motorcycles. He was extremely concerned for the safety and welfare of his students, and would let you know real quick when you executed an exercise incorrectly. He made a better rider of me. This news was very tragic news then, it is still tragic two years later, maybe due to the irony, haven't quite sorted it out yet.
Rest in peace, Holger Thony, rest in peace.
