A book for us ladies....
to check out. I haven't read it yet. I just saw a little write up in the paper about it.
"Breaking the Limit: One Woman's Motorcycle Journey Through North America " (Hyperion; $23.95)
Karen Larsen deserves a lot of credit for her gutsiness and determination. There aren't many people of either gender who would travel thousands of miles across the US and Canada on a Harley ( nicknamed "Lucy") with the barest of essentials. But go she does, a lone woman dressed in black leather and ready for adventure. She survives speeding SUVs that almost run her off the road and has the occasional encounter with creeps. But mostly she finds a welcoming, if at times curious attitude toward her ("You riding all alone?"), and the kindness of strangers interspersed with the inevitable loneliness of long-distance travel. Usually in these kinds of journeys, the writer is looking for something intangible. Larsen, though, just learns to accept each day for what it is, basking in the glory of losing herself on the road.

Not just for the ladies...
Hi Deb,
I picked up the book while I was on vacation this summer and am half way thorugh it... (hey, I had to squeeze reading in with riding, partying, swimming and other vacation stuff) and then I had re-entry to the work/regular life to deal with... but I can't wait to finish reading the story...
But I gotta tell ya... I don't think this book is just for women... And if anyone has comments about me being in touch with my feminine side... I say **** that... there is no reason a man can't be inspired by a woman... and I'm a little jealouse I didn't get to ride along with her...
Deb said it best "There aren't many people of either gender who would travel thousands of miles across the US and Canada on a Harley ( nicknamed "Lucy") with the barest of essentials."
To be honest, I have at times (twice) had to hand the book to a women and have her translate Karens sentences/paragraphs... you know from a womans perspective... and of course what I didn't get immediatly... was tottaly apparent to a woman... (mostly regarding relationships and feelings)...
In all (even though I haven't finished) I think it's a great book... Karen Larson has the guts to just take off... to realize her vision, and enjoy her passion... all while dealing with life... just like you and me... good and bad... and taking it all in stride... day by day...
Read the book...

My wife is reading it and I expect to as soon as she is done. She said that she now fully understood what riding is all about. Funny when the book talked about Creston, Iowa and what a hole it is............She left Creston two days after graduating University of Nabraska for the Big Apple back in '78. We go back in the summer (unless we go to Sturgis) and watch the fireworks in McKinnley park.

This is a good read for those Sportster owners out there that believe their bikes are not for long distance riding.

Good
My fiance is reading it (she has a 2001 Lowrider) and thinks it's awesome. A fantastic journey of body, mind and soul (and a Harley of course).
Y'all ride safe.

I just finished reading this book. Definitaly inspired me. Makes me want to pack up and start a ride now, I'm a bit of a wuss in the cold though, so it might have to wait until spring. I bought a copy for my mom and her best friend to inspire them too. And my fiance is reading it. Amazing! And very well written.
