Talking Took my first cold weather ride this morning!

Yes this morning it was like 50 out and the sun wasn't up just yet and I met my sister at Ihop at 730 this morning. Holy cow it was cold. My face was frozen and my ears...well I think they froze off!!
It was so cool riding my first 5 miles up all by myself and back. I will admit I would rather ride with a buddy. But my bf doesn't have a bike and other guys from another forum have offered....but I am really looking for some girl riding buddies.

What do you girls use to keep your self warm? I am thinking one of those skull face covers....I just want my face and ears to be warm. I tried using one of my ski knit hats under my helmet but that wasn't working...too bulky. I have so much hair I think I was adding to the problem.

I use a heated jacket and gloves that plug into the bike. It's worth the expense, believe me. I also wear a mask when I need to, and a headband made of mittens material that keeps my ears warm. Stay warm, it's going to be a long winter!!

In winter, I wear a full face helmet. I have a fleece neck warmer (pink) and wear layers under my jacket. If it's really cold out, I'm with Lyndy and wear my electric jacket/gloves. I wear chaps, or my waterproof, insulated pants.

I am getting ready to order my jacket from Fox Creek...I have never heard of an electric jacket or gloves. Where can I get them? I hopefully will be moving up to Colorado in 09 or 2010 so I know I will definitely need to be warm.

Mine are First Gear, ordered through J&P Cycles. Harley also makes women's electric gear, which is manufactured for them by Gerbing. Gerbing and Aerostitch are two other companies that have gear. Aerostitch does not make gear specifically for women, which is a problem for me 'cause I'm not built like a boy. I loved living in Colorado when I was there. It's a gorgeous state, with great riding.

Wow Annie.....I guess I have forgotten what it wa slike to live in Colorado. But my blood has thinned out since I have been down here(1997). I went riding yesterday and it was in the low 50's and I don't have chaps(we were out riding for about 5 hrs) so it took about four hours for my legs to warm up.
My hat is off to anyone who can ride out in that cold azz weather.
I am just glad that I am out and riding finally.
And thanks for letting me know where to look for that gear.

I have a hard time riding when it's pouring rain. We've been having a few days of sun between storms, and it makes an incredible difference in my disposition to be able to get out, even if it's only for a relatively short ride. Once you get the bug, it's really hard to see the bike in the garage, languishing away. Trish, get some really heavy expedition weight long underwear. It's not that expensive (less than chaps) and it really helps keep you warm. UnderArmour makes great ones, as does LL Bean.

Thanks Annie.....I just ordered some. I figure if I don't get a lot of use out of the thermals down here in FL I sure will in CO.
